The Dudley canal tunnel was the highlight of a recent trip to the Black Country. It sounds a bit of a contradiction but there is just so much to see inside this dark tunnel. The excellent tour guide on the boat tells you so much of the history of the place, from the Jurassic age up to the Industrial Revolution. There is a very good visitor centre and free car park. We spent a really informative and interesting 45mins on the barge being entertained by our guides John and Nathan, to see the engineering and hear tales of the people who worked in those awful conditions was eye opening.
