If you’re after an old fashioned looking pub that even on a Friday evening isn’t too busy and pretty quiet, this is a great pub to stop at. This pub, the Devonshire ‘round the corner and the Roebuck are pretty much the Bass holy trinity or trio if you will in Burton, brewing capital of Britain, and this pint ain’t half bad. A lovely albeit sharp pint of Bass, poured straight from the keg which was quite cool to see, decent prices on the pints too. As of the time of writing this review, paid £3.70 for the pint of Bass. Honestly if you’re paying anything under £4 for a pint of Bass you’re doing alright, at least that’s what my Dad told me, and he’s over 60 and lived in Burton all his life. All in all, a pretty decent pub! Edit: Literally minutes after I wrote this review, I heard one of the bar staff talk about how it’s not normally this quiet 😂, something to do with the Jubilee weekend.

Great find for the fan of the Ale. A gem of a pub in Burtons beer district. Since 1826 this gem has been serving and it is etched in every beam, fireplace and bespoke seat. Great effort is put in to keeping this a place of worship to the beverage. Minor distraction of music, food or gaming is present. The folk singer, pork pie and boardgame is available if needed only on certain days. Guest ales must be tried and the pie for the meat easter. Go and be amazed for this is a rare treat.

Wow what a traditional pub, unique selection of ales, ipa, craft, mild, pale ale, porters, stouts. Wanna try something different, here's your place. Very friendly welcome from the bar maid and also the locals were very nice and engaging in conversation. Food is good there also, had the best pork pie served with 3 different food lubes. English mustard, whole grain mustard and Branson pickle. Totally a must if in Burton!!!!

Without a doubt the spirit of Burton in a pub, in fact one with a long history of bring tied to the Bass brewery. A regular hang out of me and my friends, and they travel from Tamworth just to go.

Serving up real ale and good beer food like pork pie platters and cheese and crackers it's not too be missed by any real ale fan or fan of how pubs used to be. The trick is only to know what you're expecting. Seating area is a couple of small snugs, bar is small and in a back room, the floor is basic red tiles and there is a real fire for heating and atmosphere.

Don't go if you're after a sports bar or a chain pub as you will be disappointed. If what you want is history, real ale and a good time then put it on the list for your next...
