So we booked to come here tonight to celebrate my Nan’s 80th birthday. As a table of 8, we drove 45mins each way to be there. My sister is gluten free and had emailed weeks before to see if they catered for this and was impressed that they had a separate menu and easy way of ordering. This was great, because she already feels awkward and sometimes embarrassed about having to make sure she can eat and not have her food cross contaminated. The menu said she could choose two mains and two sides to come directly from the kitchen but it wasn’t communicated at first that she could replenish this once she’d finished. She ordered the beef in black bean and it very quickly left her feeling off (it looked like it was still walking and was really chewy). She had already ordered her next plate but couldn’t face it when it came out. Conscious about waste, she asked one member of management if she could take it home (as it had been brought out especially and not like she’d filled the plate from the buffet). She was advised that their policy was not to take food away- she understood this but advised there would be waste. She was told this was fine and the manager understood. When she came to pay, a different member of management made a deal out of the uneaten food and said next time they would charge- and wouldn’t listen to my sister explaining she had already spoken to someone. This lady (bobbed dark hair) was very rude and upset my sister making her cry. It also ruined the celebration we were there for. I challenged the member of staff for poor customer service and upsetting someone and she had the cheek to tell me she “had been kind by not charging”.
I also noticed staff whispering about our table behind their hands and staring over in our direction whilst we were eating, with one member of management standing behind the things for sale cabinet. Very unprofessional.
The atmosphere was lovely and there was plenty of room between tables so you didn’t feel squashed. There was a wide selection of food which was great to see. Some nice enough, some chewy and a lot cold. Not worth the price you pay.
But ultimately it’s the customer service that lets this place down. And in this case, the member of management at the end ruined the entire visit. We spent nearly £250 with you tonight. The cost of the food left would have been a drop in the ocean. And if we had been asked to pay a small fee politely, we would have done it.
There won’t be a next time, you don’t...
Read moreVery nice and tasty food with a massive selection.
I'm quite surprised there are lots of reviews saying the food is cold, it's always been red hot or cold if its chilled foods. Hygiene wise, yes the holders on the tables could do with being cleaned but other than that it's fine. Out of 2 visits so far the first lady to seat us from reception was very happy and polite but Friday gone was a different lady who was cold and not really happy for us to come and spend money. However this will not stop us from coming again, the Asian lady on the payment desk was very happy we enjoyed our food. Most of the serving staff are quite young but they all are very polite.
People seem to rave about Cosmo in Derby being good, but i hope I'm qualified to say since I've tried a few places and also been cooking Asian food and learning from them but not yet been to South East Asia that Wing Wah is really good. The flavours are strong and we have had nothing yet which seems watered down. What you do have to remember places in the UK have to cater for white people (that's us) and most do not like to much spice or strong flavours. I already know some Nepali places serve a spicy chutney which is nothing like the what they cook at home because most do not like it despite it being very tasty and I've had first hand experience of eating the right stuff.
There is a massive selection of food, too much to try in one visit and its all high quality way better than Cosmo Derby or May Sum Nottingham and as good as our local takeaway and The New Water Margin Derby. The sushi is real its not the cheap stuff, and the deserts are amazing too. No cheap synthetic cream its the real stuff which for a buffet restaurant is a real welcome surprise.
I think Burton is really lucky to have this place there, this really is you pay for what you get. It costs more than the other eat as much as you like places but its worth it. There are flavours i recognise from authentic ingredients i use for certain dishes so i know its got good stuff in it.
Thanks so much will...
Read moreI went here today for lunch with my Husband and our baby. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lady who was wearing a facemask. Due to this, I was unable to hear clearly what the lady was saying. As I was informing the lady that her facemask was causing me some issues, another lady appeared and began to shout at us, apparently repeating what her colleague had previously said! I found this incredibly rude but things got worse. She insisted on shouting as she showed us to our table and told me to "remove the valuables from my pram and put it around the corner, out of the way". Her shouting caused a disturbance to other diners who were looking over to see what all the noise was about! This type of poor sarcasm and attempt of intimidation shouldn't be experienced during lunch with my Husband and our baby! Next, as I was cleaning up the incredibly filthy high chair, another lady appeared and took our drinks order. She then asked if the baby was eating. I informed her that baby is only just 6 months old and she doesn't yet eat proper foods however, she may have a taste of a soft noodle at best. Lady then said that she would be charging us £2.99 for baby. That's one expensive noodle😂 I insisted on repeating that baby wouldn't be eating and the lady argued with me, being very rude and so unfortunately, this was enough to make me feel unwelcome and we decided to leave the restaurant without eating. I was very disappointed in our visit because we had travelled 30 minutes get to Wing Wah's and a family member had recommended the place to us after giving such great feedback on the food quality. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and will be sticking with our old faithful,...
