I am extremely disappointed with Gloucester Quays Shopping Centre and its misleading claims about being "dog-friendly." It’s well known that dogs aren’t allowed inside the shopping centre itself, but the management constantly responds to complaints by saying that dogs are allowed around the outside of the centre. This is completely false. The outdoor streets around the centre do not allow dogs either, which makes it impossible for people with dogs to walk through.
To make matters worse, if you’re walking your dog anywhere near the centre, you’re forced to backtrack and go over St. Anne’s (High Orchard) Bridge and along the other side of the canal just to get to the more dog-friendly docks area. And with the streets around the shopping centre closed due to demolition or refurbishment, it's even more inconvenient.
I've attached an image that shows the streets you are not able to walk down (marked in red) and the long detour you have to take (marked in green) if you have a dog. This means the entire section acts as a blockade to the rest of the city if you’re trying to walk along the quayside, making it incredibly frustrating for dog owners.
If you’re after a cleaner, more accommodating experience when visiting the Cotswolds, I’d suggest heading to nearby Cheltenham instead. It's a far better option, offering a more welcoming environment and much easier navigation for both visitors and dog owners alike. Cheltenham seems to have a better grasp on providing a pleasant experience for everyone, including those with pets.
This is not what I'd expect from a city that claims to be semi-dog-friendly. The misinformation and lack of proper accommodation for dog owners around Gloucester Quays are frustrating and misleading. I would not recommend visiting if you have a dog, even if you’re...
Read moreJust over a year ago, the Quays offered disabled people the opportunity to pay a small fee to park for free for a year. Today, I was informed that the system had been cancelled. Not only that, but a disabled person can only park for two hours for free which is less than the standard 3 hours on a double yellow line. When I asked why, I was given a poor excuse that they were losing car parking fees at £400 "per day". When I parked up today, I was the only person parked in a row of 8 disabled spaces. I quickly surmised that the money they were losing was from EMPTY spaces. As its Christmas, an image of Scrooge backed up by his accountant flashed into my head giving me the middle finger. I don't suppose they realise that it takes time for some disabled people to decant their vehicle, get to the lift, go to the toilet maybe have a coffee then its time to rush back to their mobility car, pack their wheelchair away and leave the car park before their time expires. Shopping??? Well, there's not enough time for that is there.. and here's me thinking that Peel LLP were encouraging disabled people to shop at the Quays. This decision lacks empathy toward disabled people and as far as I'm concerned, its retailers who should be voicing their opinion to the management company for scaring away wheelchair users and disabled people. My message to peel LLP this Christmas. Hope your buyers put you to shame on the way you fiddled the books to show that you are losing £400 a day for now empty disabled spaces that cannot be parked in by able bodied people. It is a sick world we live in, when there is a...
Read moreCar park rip off! After enjoying a weekday EVENING meal with friends I was dismayed to be charged £6 for staying less than 4 hours. Rather than the evening rate kicking in at 6pm, this system adds TWO lots of minimum charge together, if you happen to straddle 6pm, even by just a few minutes. In my case, I was charged £3 for 45 minutes. Ironically, it would have been cheaper to pay the full day rate for up to 4 hours! Very unhappy about this shady practice and it has left a bad taste. Can't recommend now :(
Update 9th April: Well, the so called 'help' from Izzy via email was simply to re-iterate their charging structure and to claim that it is perfectly clear on their signage. Basically, tough luck. No actual help at all.
Ok, well, I'm entitled to disagree about clarity of the signs when you're busy concentrating on driving into the car park without holding other people up. I remain of the opinion that it is very poor value for money when straddling daytime into evening. Sadly, the unsympathetic response from customer services has definitely put me off recommending that anyone else goes here. The Mall at Cribbs is within easy driving distance and for similar offerings the parking is super easy, and totally...
