We went to Escape Dundee on a beautiful day in May to celebrate our eldest becoming a teenager. As a family of 4 we had done 1 previous escape room over 18 months ago. We were a but intimidated by the times others had set for the room but hopeful we could complete it.
We had booked the Overthrown room, our host for the day was Abi, she was utterly fantastic, everything you could want from a host. She engaged well with the kids and enough asides to keep the adults engaged too. After offering use of toilets and secure storage for our things she took us to our room.
Escape Dundee is actually in 2 converted tenement flats in the centre of Dundee, the rooms are large and airy, nice high ceilings and kept in great condition. Abi went over a safety brief with us and describe some of the ridiculous things that other teams had done in the past (do not insert anything in to the sockets people!) before setting the scene.
Her story telling was a great way to start the role play. There were enough clues to get us started and a few trickier ones that we needed to solve along the way. All themed well and accessible to solve. A nice mix of different types of puzzles too.
When we escaped the first room we were trapped in a second! Again the themeing was spot on, not over the top in any way. Despite the increasing pressure of wondering if we would have enough time the room stayed nice and cool despite the rising temp outside.
Even our 10 year old managed to solve a puzzle or 2 without adult intervention but there were still a few puzzles that made us all discuss and think.
We did in fact manage to escape (without any clues) in a rather spectacular 42mins. Abi collected us from the room and was again brilliant helping us pick a team name, taking our photo and ensuring the birthday boy got to put our score on the board (third place for the month, although it's still early dsys).
What a fabulous way to spend the morning! Can't thank Abi enough for making this a...
Ā Ā Ā Read more100% honest review, with the comparison of playing one room before at the alternative place.
Me and one of my besties did this for my birthday, puzzles and brain competitions is so up my street, so I was very excited.
We first arrived and I will be honest my first impressions were confused, felt like we were in someoneās living room, āTis the nature of the old buildings but first impressions, it was incredibly unassuming and I didnāt have huge hopes for it being good, BUT accept my humble apologies as it was amazing!!!
Hand on heart a million times better than the alternative place in Dundee (in the bowling) the room was unassuming, and at first glance I couldnāt figure out how it could be fun, but it really was⦠I loved the storyteller (I forgot her name she was so good), the clues were achievable with focus and cooperation but stimulating without being too easy, satisfying brain gymnastics. Our storyteller was great, hyping up us when we done well⦠as a 35 year old mum, praise for being clever is exhilarating. The only negative is that we canāt do it again, but we are addicted and will get all the rooms done soon!
Really really enjoyed it, Iām glad it was unassuming too, really made for a great surprise! Thanks so much, love mamma diamond and auntie lorenzo.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreA good time was had by all, certainly recommended if within budget. The rooms are good, and the staff are near perfect.
As part of a work outing, we went for two rooms - four in Overthrone and four in Witchcraft and Wizardry.
I was in the Overthrone group, with a lovely host whose name I have forgotten (Abby?) She explained the premise including the (minimal, but enough for a role-play) story, the safety information, and fielded our questions about the boundaries of the room, including anecdotes of prior guests defacing the room to a degree thinking it necessary.
Then we were given an hour in the room. The puzzles were all manageable for us, though one specific lock was enormously frustrating - not clear how to operate it. We were given further instructions, and only I had the magic touch. It was frustrating and not intended, yes, but contributes well to the experience - getting one a little out of our element.
For the final puzzle, we needed a hint, and swiftly received it. We had a fun picture taken by our host.
The other group more readily went for hints (their room was linear, ours was not), and I believe had a similarly good time.
Would happily go again to experience the...
