Do not miss this house if you are visiting Rochester!
We live locally and only discovered Restoration House 3 years ago. We make it a pilgrimage to visit at least twice a year to see the house and the gardens because there is always something different to see in both.
The house is lived in and contains so many interesting pieces of furniture, paintings etc. which are moved around regularly by the owners and finds are frequently added. The room custodians are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable and obviously love both house and garden.
The garden is an oasis in the middle of Rochester. There are different styles of garden but the Renaissance one is by far the largest. It is difficult to explain how beautiful they all are and we think the garden rivals Sissinghurst.
At the end of the tour of both house and garden you can settle down with a cup of tea or coffee with home made cake. All proceeds going to charity.
It is a shame that the Visitors Centre does not seem to stress visiting...
Read moreThe most beautiful house and gardens tucked away down a side road. The lady selling tickets was so friendly and welcoming. We went round the house first and spoke to a few volunteer curators who had an incredible amount of knowledge, especially the gentleman who told us about the paintings. You can also get a brochure about them too. Then a break in the charming tearoom which must have been a kitchen before. Lovely ladies taking food and drink orders, I recommend their delicious sandwiches! A good pot of tea and lots of cakes to choose from. Then the gardens, wow, what absolutely stunning gardens! Make sure you follow every path and go through every arch. I could happily spend a morning in the house and spend the whole afternoon in the garden. Just enjoy and take a slower pace in life to enjoy and relax. Get some cold drinks from the tearoom and sit under a shady spot very relaxing. Tables and chairs around the garden. Highly...
Read moreA beautiful historical house and gardens just off the High Street, a beautiful oasis to delight the senses. Refreshments are available and can be taken into the garden to enjoy. The recently added Italian gardens are now established and I might add stunning, having recently returned from a holiday in Sorrento I felt immediately transported back. I recommend taking a good book to read and escape from the manic pace of life for a few hours or purchase the guide and read up the labour of love poured into this beautiful home kindly open to visitors in the late spring and summer months by the owners. Immerse yourself in the gardens and enjoy a few hours...
