Famed for being known as the English riviera and Agatha Christine's birthplace. Neither of which is very apparent. Torquay is tired. The pier is a lovely walk out on the sea. With plenty of seating.. But the wood is rotting on these benches.. I can only hope the pier structure is more maintained. The tide was in so there is no beach other than a very small area at the far end. Which has colourful beach huts. But certainly didn't appear to be room for sun bathing.. Tho maybe the tide has to go out for that!! There was a fair, which apparently, is situated in nearby Paignton usually but they had divided it between the two neighbouring towns. The beautiful pavilion.. which last time I visited housed little shops.. is boarded up, and typical of many places around torquay shows a large print of what it was like in its hey day. I can only think these are installed by the heritage society to shame the council. The princess gardens however were colourful and the fountain a lovely feature. As we're other areas of planting and gardens. Didn't get a chance to visit the Torre Abbey which has just benefitted from a £11 million restoration project.. Hopefully the rest of torquay will also be invested in and bring back a deserved title.. Of the...
Read moreTorquay is a really picturesque place. There are many places to see in Torquay. The walk along the coast, taking in all the picturesque views of the English Riveria is stunning I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s very easy to walk around in Torquay. The coast lines have helpful maps and points of interest. The sea front has many souvenir shops which stock a wide variety of different kinds of souvenirs. Everyone is friendly and many dog walkers on your walks! There is a high street as well with food and drink chains. Boat trips are also available to take out of the weather is not too choppy. The sea front is approx 10-15 mins walk from the station. There is also a local bus route which goes to Paignton which is another beech area.
There is an abundance to do including activities for children. There is also a spa retreat which is welcoming for older adults and couples which is located on the hills - quite a steep walk recommended a bus or a car for that!
In the marina you can sometimes see basking sharks and seals rarely but gorgeous...
Read moreBeautiful Tourquay, palm trees everywhere, lovely hourbour, good size sandy beach with clear water so we could see fish and crabs especially by the harbour lots of families crabbing there! Lots of seaside shops selling fudge, magnets, sweets, mugs etc..a long high street just behind the sea front with shops like Primark, Waterstones, Cinema, McDonald's and a Wetherspoons (tip - you need to go across a bridge at the bottom of the high street to get in the Weatherspoon, we spent a while trying to figure that out). There's a beefeater on the harbour which has great views but was busy so best to book a table. Lots of little coves to explore further up and a coastal walk if you don't mind hills. The seafront itself is flat and has parking either side, with some lovely looking restaurants. At night it's all lit up, usually a busker playing something or a singer near the big wheel, and up by the Clock tower there were bars with live music. Really great atmosphere, will definitely...
