The rooms are of various sizes, all clean with comfy beds. A large-ish Freeview TV is available in all rooms, with free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The food is cooked well, and enough of it to fill you up without feeling too full. There are the usual cereals and cooked breakfast in the morning, with a variety of choices for evening meals. All were delicious and tasty, and would have happily eaten more were it available. The restaurant itself is also thoughtfully laid out, with generous room between the tables, and tables are staggered and aligned with the large windows overlooking the sea in the distance, and the grounds. The hotel itself is a short walk from Torquay beach, either down the main road, or through the back of the hotel gardens and out onto Abbey Park. While there is a car park, with space for around 20 vehicles, it is very tight for coaches to gain access due to a wall opposite the entrance and the carpark going around a corner. There is live entertainment on most nights, with a variety of singers and styles. The staff were always very friendly and helpful when needed. Access to the rooms is via a card that you tap on the reader (similar to paying by card), which is a lot quicker, easier and more reliable than most hotel rooms which either use a key or require you to swipe the card in the reader. The only complaint that I had with this is that the card is white, as is the bedroom cabinets. Make sure that you remember where you leave it so that you don't need to go hunting for it(!). While I understand the hotel name isn't printed on the key for security reasons, I would suggest the hotel add a coloured mark on the card to help make it stand out and be easier to find. When visited in February 2018, the hotel seems as though it has very recently been redecorated, being done to a high standard. The garden themselves do need some work doing, although this seems as though it is the next stage in the refurbishment of the hotel. Speaking to the receptionists, the current owners took over about 3 years ago, and it will be fair to say they have invested heavily into the hotel. Overall, a lovely hotel; would happily stay at again.

Not sure where to begin with this review, I hate writing bad reviews but feel I have too so others don't get ripped off .|First off I would like to say the manager who greeted us was very friendly.|After that it goes down hill some what . We were allegedly given an upgraded room , well if this was the upgraded room how bad were the normal rooms ?|At best it looked like a youth hostel or student accommodation, decor from the 70s with tatty old pine furniture.|We actually threw better furniture away recently.|Bedding was clean but just a regular double bed that felt like sleeping on a trampoline.|Round the edges of the room it was dirty .|TV didn't work .|Bathroom slightly more modern but grotty , mold on tiles and grim around skirting boards.|Initially my other half wanted to leave .|But we were meeting a friend we hadn't seen for 4 years and decided to stick it out.|To be fair it was pretty quiet during the night despite its location.||Breakfast was served buffet style and we arrived at 8.30 to be greeted with half a slice of fried bread, mushroom and beans .No eggs bacon or sausages .|Maybe more were on the way but we walked out and promptly left the hotel and found breakfast elsewhere.|You could be forgiven for thinking the hotel was cheap and had that been the case we could have seen past the tatty outdated rooms .|But for this unforgettable experience we paid £117 , yes you read it correctly £117 .|This day and age the offering is simply not acceptable and definitely not at that price point .|Safe to say we won't be...

My son Harvey & i had a fantastic 5days stay in the Marquis hotel from the 24 of july. We arrived picked up our key, had our bags taken to our room, unfortunately the room was unsuitable so i spoke to michele the manager (very helpful & friendly) she put us in another room. The room was large & very clean shower was huge clean & very modern. Breakfast was good & plentiful so much so with all the meals, we had to give them a miss on Thursday we were still full from the days before 😊. Mark, in charge of the large clean, fresh dinning hall was very helpful & as Harvey is only 10 made adjustments to some of his meals.( Thank u Mark ) all the staff were friendly, helpful, professional & in my opinion made the hotel & stay much more enjoyable. The management needs to recognise this & look after them! The hotel has been modernised in parts & hopefully michele & the other staff will find the energy to make it shine as bright as they do. A big thank you to Dan. If it wasnt for him on the phone when i rang to inquire about the hotel & what Torquay has to offer we may not have gone. So glad we did Harvey & i made some great memories with some very nice people we met on the coach & holiday. Hope to return soon. Paignton zoo is a must (they have...
