This is a terrific and Awesome Cavern to visit in the famous Peak District village of Castleton with a sensational guided tour and jaw dropping cave formations to see. The Cavern is nicknamed 'The Devil's Arse' which originates from the 1500s when villagers living nearby dared not visit the Cavern due to links to the Devil's. Visits to the Cavern are by guided tour only and these last approx. 1 hour and are thoroughly enthralling, informative and interesting and on the tour of the Cavern you can learn about how the Cavern was used for lead mining and how the lead Miners lived and worked in the Mines. On the guided tour you can learn about the myth about 'The Devil's Arse' and also the Geological Formations of the Cavern and on the tour you can also witness a brilliant ropemaking demonstration and also a lead Miner's Cottage where you can see how they lived with their families when they worked in the Mines. The Cave formations you see on the tour are simply stunning and breathtaking and are some of the best around. The tour guides deliver the tours in a very enthusiastic and riveting manner making the tour really interesting and very entertaining. There is no cafe but there are a small range of decent souvenirs at reasonable prices at the kiosk. Overall this is a really intriguing and interesting place to visit and makes for a very fascinating and insightful day out. Definitely well worth a visit whilst...

First time visit to Peak Cavern whose original name is Devils Arse for good reason.

Wayne gave us myself with two teenage boys, together with other paying visitors a very personable, entertaining, knowledgeable in depth guided tour covering the industry related to this cave & it’s fascinating, surprising history; there’s even a connection to the film industry.

The whole experience was inclusive & fun. We came away with much respect for the varied occupants who over the centuries have lived, loved or met horrible ends in this part of the cave network.

The Devils Arse (aka Peak Caverns) connection to Pevril Castle above the cavern & the caverns historical connection to royalty is extremely interesting. Add to this the geological anomalies & human history made it an outstanding experience. We came away with a greater understanding & a gift of a freshly made length of rope. We had a most entertaining, informative & a happy tour here. Certainly well worth the ticket price. Thank you to all 🤩 🤩

We will definitely be returning to find out about fresh cave exploration & if any more artefacts have been unearthed this summer 2025.

Be advised to wear suitable footwear & warm comfortable clothing, most of the cavern tour enabled us to stand upright but there is a short stretch of crouching to pass through an area where the cavern...

After an impromptu trip to Castleton, we discovered the Peak Cavern, and was particularly intrigued by the reference to "The Devil's Arse"!. We booked our tickets for the tour, and was not disappointed. It was great value for the £16 per head adult price! The tour lasts 1 hour, and our guide (Chris) was exceptional, and really made it. He was energetic, knowledgeable and comical too!! There was a demonstration on how they used to make string over 300 years ago, and many stories and you walked through the various caverns and caves.....including a visit from Queen Victoria I!! I was a little concerned it would have been boring, but it wasn't.

For those that may be claustrophobic, you'll be ok on this tour. There's only one low ceiling, where you have to crouch to get under it, but it's only about 20 steps (and it's a wide space too).

The cavern has been really innovative too, and now hosts Cinema screenings in the cave entrance. These range from The Goonies to Raiders of the Lost Arc. I can imagine how amazing it will sound in there too. They also host tribute bands, and I will definitely try and go back to see one, as the sounds and acoustics will be amazing I reckon.

I reckon kids will find it OK too, as a different experience for them (albeit it less interested...

Carol singing in the Devil’s *Booty* 👀 Every year this stunning cave in the Peak District plays host to the most atmospheric carol singing concerts. It’s affectionately known as the Devils Ass due to the flatulent sound that can be heard in the cave when flood water drains away. 💨The acoustics in the cave also provide the most stunning echoey sounds for the brass band to play during the concert. Tickets to the concert were £12.50 this year and includes a cup of mulled wine and a mince pie. Cheaper than a trip to the cinema! Save this post as a reminder for next year to book EARLY and follow for more UK experiences and activities 🇬🇧 #peakdistrict #peakdistrictnationalpark #peakdistrictproud #christmascarols #christmasintheuk #ukchristmas #festive #festiveseason #uktravel #travelblogger #uktravelblogger #uktraveller #christmas #christmastree #sheisnotlost #cave #peakdistrictcaves #placestovisit #christmasaesthetic #prettylittleengland #wheretofindme #darlingescapes
