Me and my boyfriend came here today. We didn't book, and were found a table straight away. The staff were so lovely and service was great throughout our visit. The pub is beautiful and has lots of character inside and was just the sort of place we love. The menu is very extensive with something for everyone - my boyfriend went for a Mam Tor Burger, wow!! It was huge!! And so well presented. I went for the Hawaiian Pizza which was lovely and crispy and so tasty. We shared a cheesy garlic bread which we thought would be just a couple of slices, but it was the same size as my pizza! It was really tasty with plenty of cheese on top. We couldn't manage it all and the staff were happy to box up most of the garlic bread to bring home with us. It was very reasonably priced and we would definitely come back here again! Would totally recommend!

Their Sunday roast was the worst I've ever had. Nothing on that plate was fresh. The chicken was cheap and had preprocessed chargrilled lines on it (not roasted then). There was a couple of overdone carrot sticks and one small piece of broccoli. There was mash and roast potatoes, but the roast potatoes were soggy and shriveled and the mash tasted odd; suspiciously like it came from a box. The Yorkshire pudding was dry. The pub is actually nice and cosy, with a log fire and the traditional look you'd expect in a Peak District village like Castleton. I can thoroughly recommend it on that front. But that roast was an abomination - it was an insult. They need to do it properly or take it off the menu, because there are lots of pubs in the area that do a lovely, homemade Sunday roast for around or less than the £11.95 I paid here.

Pretty poor, had the bangers and mash which offers multiple choices. Opted for the extra Yorkshire pudding, which without that would have just been a small bit of mash and 3 sausages for 15.50. Didn't come with veg so added that on for a fiver, had a wierd vinegary taste and broccoli was half green half yellow. Came with two battered onion rings, which doesn't go with bangers and mash. The place was pretty dirty throughout to be honest, toilets were gross and out of date since the 90s, staff not particularly welcoming, pint glass dirty. There's a small sign up saying refurbishment being carried out, couldn't see any evidence of that, and tbh doesn't look like it's been touched for decades which is a shame for somewhere so prominent in centre of Castleton. Won't go back.

OMG Alex Polizzi is definitely needed here .... NOW !!!! Just back from our stay (25.3.2024) Booked for my husband's birthday pressie (along with 8 friends (4 couples). Extremely disappointed with our accommodation. STAFF LOVELY/ GOOD FOOD... very tasty. Plus....Saturday night singer /guitar entertainment bonus too .. HOWEVER The rooms OMG..... worst ever stayed in...... Our room "Revelin" was nothing like the photo advertised on The Ole Nags Head webside.... False advertising at its best.. This needs to be amended to tell the truth .... Photo of our room "Revelin" looks lovely on website.. 4 Poster Bed / Drapes.. until you actually walk into it.....suddenly you are faced with an extremely small room with a very very basic cream (wobbly) bedstead with lime wallpaper behind not to mention the damp patches on ceiling near door ... NOT the Grand Bedroom advertised. We double checked the website to see if we had been given the incorrect room - as what we had - was not (or so we thought) shown on Ole Nags Head's website. All 9 rooms have grand photos ours was not grand???? We clicked on all photo's to all the rooms to reveal more details.. We simply could not believe the photo revealed when we got to Revelin ...the shock picture now actually had a photo of the the very very basic cream wobbly bedstead.. NOT the 4 Poster as per advert. So disappointed. The bathroom was so tiny..if you are bigger than a size 12/ 14 you just won't fit in the shower. The bathroom door had No Lock or even a catch to shut the door....it just doesn't shut. The floor has not been cleaned properly (for sometime)... behind toilet dust/hairs also in corners just outside shower. Carpets not hoovered well either throughout bedroom/hotel. Also......The noise is horrendous in this room as next to the upstairs restaurant and as at the top of the stairs just above bar too... we went to bed late but very noisy into early a.m. " Revilin" has metal frame wet moulding windows out to the front/road.... just above the entrance to hotel so lots of noice from smokers chatting outside which is fair enough but please note it is an extremely noisy room. (We did ask to be moved but fully booked). We never ever complain normally........but this simply has to be pointed out to others looking to book. Our friends had similar problems in their rooms portable heater in room as sooooooo cold. Their bed was also substituted for metal frame bed not as advertised 4 Poster. They had No complimentary shampoo/shower gel water ect. ( others all had these) House keeping is Very slap dash/non existent. Other friends had the 2 single bedroom.... Thick dust on the ornate wooden pointed headboards you could write your name in it. The owner we understand is aware but not interested which must make the lovely staff extremely frustrated and disheartened at the constant unsatisfactory customers and constant apologies they have to keep making. Clearly understaffed too. Such a shame..... please listen to your...

Absolutely fantastic location! Unfortunately, lots of issues with the place! The place really needs updating, but it is one of the cheaper places to stay so you get what you pay for. There was black mould in the bathroom. The large shower head was so close to the wall that you couldn't enjoy the water because you have to stand up against the cold wall. The shower was very cheap and shoddy. The window was always dripping with water on the inside and as a result, the window framehad black mould around it. They managed to keep the room warm enough, even though the windows are single glazed because the radiators were always on very high, which was nice. The 4 poster bed was a nice touch but very uncomfortable (and had two mattresses, one on top of the other?) so I didn't sleep well on it at all. The doors felt a little insecure as the locks really need updating. TheTV was the smallest screen possible and took a bit of eye strain to watch.||The place was very noisy - the doors are so noisy and slam and you can hear people moving and banging around all the time at night. On the Saturday night the bar music and noise was loud and then you could hear doors and people walking around and up and down the stairs late into the night. And then because walkers get up early you start hearing people very early in the morning.||The breakfast on the Saturday morning was a bit of a mess. I was surprised that the staff had not kept track of which rooms had been down for breakfast (when I've worked in hotels we've ticked rooms off as they've been so we know who to expect still) and when we went down at 10:30am (breakfast is served until 11am) they were not ready for us and had packed it all away. The food we ordered was not presented nicely and kind-of just slopped onto the plate in a pile. The egg was so runny that some of it was still clear and slimy. It was a lot more organises and calm on the Sunday morning.||I was also quite surprised that one of the staff unlocked and walked into our room around 945am when we were still in pjs and in bed (because I'd slept so terribly). I don't understand why they thought we were definitely not there and that they could come in at that time.||All in all, a very basic stay that did the job but if you need more comfort and less of a 'hostel' feel then go somewhere else. I've stayed in...

My wife and I have stayed here several times over the years and have always loved Ye Olde Nags Head the breakfasts there have always been fantastic...that was until we decided to go for a weekend break near Xmas! ||I noticed the staff were all different to the last time we visited which was a couple of years ago and they were very cheerful back then which always makes you feel better on arrival.||One of the guys serving at the bar looked pretty scruffy as he had large stains on his black top which did'nt look very hygienic when he was walking around serving food as well! Anyway we were quickly checked into our room and we booked an evening meal for later on that night our room was looking tired and dated but that was not a problem and for us it adds to the atmosphere of an old pub.||Our meal at night was disgusting my wife had fish which was okay and I had the Garlic Mushroom Salad we were both very disappointed with the it was very tasteless and just a complete mush this left us thinking what was breakfast going to be like?||In the morning we went down for breakfast which seemed okay until we made our order for a simple Full English Breakfast when it arrived my wife's fried egg was very runny so she told the lady who served us and another egg was fried which turned out exactly the same I had an Eggs Benedict which was a complete mess and left me feeling sick for the rest of the day!||The toast that came with breakfast was also the worst and weirdest I have ever had as it was chargrilled bread it tasted horrible this was not proper toast as you would normally expect!||The staff although friendly seemed very inexperienced and the guy with the scruffy black shirt on wore the same shirt at breakfast, we were very disappointed with our food they definitely need a half decent chef who can cook a breakfast and the service was very amateur.||I think this may have been our final visit to Ye Olde Nags Head unless they change management and get somebody in who can actually cook meals properly and get the place back to how it used to be it's...
