Picture this: three starving hikers, with heavy loads, ready for some scran. After getting into Castleton we immediately searched the internet for some suggestions. Listed as one of the top rated restaurants was 1530. We looked at the reviews and it seemed it would hit the spot, after all it’s a top rated restaurant on Google reviews for the local area. Upon first glance at the menu, HIGH PRICES, but this did not turn us away as we were under the impression of high quality food for premium prices. Our menu selection was: Arancini Risotto Balls and Duck Piadas for starters. We were aiming to share but only two balls (£8) came out and two small duck flatbreads (£9 - best dish) which, in our opinions, was extortionate. For mains, we were hardened for choice as everything was deliciously described (our main selling point for staying). After much debate we ordered the Beef Regu Tagliatelle (£14), Fennel Sausage Pizza (£14) and the Fiery Prawn Puttanesca (£16). Let’s start with the Raghu, the sauce consistency was slightly watery giving the impression it has been heated (or microwaved) from frozen. With a Ragu you expect braised tender flaked beef but instead it appeared to be minced beef (my friend also believed this was frozen due to its consistency). The dish also lacked flavour whilst the red wine over powered it. Next the pizza, the base was only just about cooked (no crisp), the sausage lacked any sort of flavour and the tomato base was sup-par. Not what we expected. Finally, the Puttanesca, which was the best tasting dish out of the mains: the prawns were good, sauce again sup-par and very little anchovies. The overall value for money wasn’t good, which is a shame because we were all hoping for what we thought was a highly reviewed Italian restaurant. Upon writing this review we perhaps chose the wrong dishes (4/5 dishes being poor) but we personally will not go back to discover if the others are worth our money. However, it’s not all bad, the customer service was friendly and to our satisfaction. Though we did not think it was necessary to complain as we believed any spot improvements were...
Read moreAfter careful deliberation and a lot of thought I've decided to rate this restaurant a 3 the moment we walked in we were greeted with a very warm welcome and shown to our table me and my partner both ordered the steaks upon ordering I noticed the steak didn't come with mushrooms so I asked about the meal and was told that it was fine because it came with a side salad so I decided to go with it and have the garlic mushrooms as a separate side making the meal £21 which I wasn't opposed to paying so long as the meal was up to the standard. unfortunately when it arrived my plate only had a third of the chips my partner had and side salad consisted only of rocket. so I asked the waitress if there has been a problem upon dishing up my chips she said no but she would see what she could do next the other waitress arrived (presumably the manageress)and I was told that they do not do pub portions which left me feeling altogether quite embarrassed it was at this point that I decided to mention something about the side salad which was also just brushed off. I was asked if I wanted a separate portion of chips ( it was made clear that I had to pay for them)and I did say I would have them. but my meal was nearing the end so I decided to ask the waitress if my fries were going to be ready at which point she told me she hadn't ordered them but would make it an order for them straight away I told her not to worry about it. but still the basket chips arrived when I had about two bites left of my steak. the steak was tasty but nothing amazing and this restaurant will be getting a two if it wasn't for the fact that the service was good apart from ChipGate (waitresses regularly coming over to top up your glass with water and asked if there was anything you needed was a good touch)but not good enough. Upon leaving pleasantries and apologies were made but by this time it was too late and the...
Read moreAs per the timings on Google and the restaurants own website, the place is open till 11:00pm. We arrived at 9:05 hoping to get some dinner but were told that there was no space. At the very same time we noticed a group were vacating a table so we asked if we could be seated there.
The staff then informed us that they were no longer serving food. When I asked whether it was mentioned anywhere that they stopped serving food at 9, they said it was a business decision to stop service. There wasn’t any other place open close by so I requested if they could accommodate us and we’d order really quickly. She then went to check with her manager who came and informed us that all the food is now over and they’d spend all of tomorrow shopping for food.
I don’t know whether this was genuine (I highly doubt it), I don’t know whether it was racially directed and they just didn’t want to serve Indians or they were just being lazy and wanted to go home, but I’m sick of going to places that claim they serve till late or have ‘all day dining’ and refuse to serve for...
