I had a really poor experience here on Friday. We had about 15 minutes until we needed to get to one of the cave tours so decided to pop in for a snack. There was a man behind the till who I found rude. Anyway, we had two orders. One was just two slices of cake and the bloke told us to wait outside and in a very rude manner (there was plenty of space to wait indoors or he could have said have a seat).
Ten minutes it took just to bring out two slices of cake, which they could have just handed over at the time. I really don't understand the logic here. Second order was taking ages, which was just a cake, coffee and drink and so I politely asked how long it would be and I got quite a rude response. I have worked in food establishments before and so I understand they can get busy and hectic, however when I went in, there was just this very slow pace behind the desk and staff picking drinks up, looking at them and putting them down again in confusion.
It seemed a bit chaotic to be honest. Finally we had to leave for the tour so in the end I never got the food and rang to ask if we could pick it up on the way back. Went back afterwards having been told "yes" and it was closed. Could have said we close soon on the phone. So I now have a £15 chargeback going through with the bank.
I certainly won't be paying for food I didn't get. Finally the worst part of this illogical standing outside thing was a group of seven walkers approached and asked if the cafe was open and I said yes but they make you wait outside and they said oh we will go somewhere else, that seems too complicated. So I can imagine it doesn't help trade when customers are confused as to why people are standing outside. And not to sound too disgruntled but the feedback on the cake we did manage to get was that it was...
Read moreWe visited today as a family of 4, with our 4 legged family member also. What a little gem of a find, purely by accident after a long walk for the mam tor sunrise (cloud rise today) our breakfast plans fell through(we forgot our gas for our stove 🙈😂) I am so glad we did. I am gluten free and the choice was fabulous, very well catered for. I myself had the smoked salmon, requested poached eggs rather than scrambled on gluten free toast, with a lovely wedge of lemon. The salmon was beautiful, very good quality, my daughter wants to come again so she can have it. Eggs were cooked to liking and were lovely. My daughter had the cheese burger and said it was lovely. My other day had the winter vegetable soup with warm crusty bread and said it was beautiful. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast bap. We tried the bloody orange and fig cockle warmer and it was lovely. Staff were all very polite, and helpful and happy to answer any questions. The cafe was clean and welcoming. We will definitely be "forgetting our gas" again so we can have another...
Read moreI’m a coeliac, which for those of you who are not sure, means that if I have any gluten, even a crumb, in my food I can be very I’ll. Its particularly difficult to eat out as not everybody is fully aware of how easy it is to cross-contaminate food in a small restaurant, pub or cafe. This week I happened to be in Castletown looking for lunch and I came across the Three Roofs Cafe. I checked the menu and was pleased to spot a number of GF options (gluten free). As usual in a small cafe I opted for a choice that is generally safe - ham (checked it was not breaded), egg and chips (checked the fryer was not used for any battered items). Once satisfied was prepared for the usual frozen chips, slimy ham and a supermarket egg. Wow! What a pleasant surprise. The ham was like home made, the egg free range or organic, but the chips!!! My or my, they were hand cut, gloriously cooked and the best I have ever had in my almost 80 years of life in any cafe. My only regret about posting this is that next time I’m in the town I might have trouble finding a...
