We stayed in the lower styx apartment. Accomodation was nice, very old fashioned how we like it and tidy. Had a parking space out back which was handy although parking is tight for space. Good amenities. Situated in the beautiful village of castleton. Plenty of shops, pubs and tea rooms nearby that do fab breakfasts. This apartment now has its own key code front entrance separate from everyone else. You cant lock the inner door from the outside. ||||However only a few things we didnt like ... bathroom had mould on the walls so didnt sit well with my mould allergy and cobwebs so could really do with a more thorough clean and lack of bins in the apartment (only 1 tiny bin in kitchen and tiny bin in bathroom) . The mattress on the king bed was not great quality and was very uncomfortable. It needs replacing. ||||We were also not made aware that they do not provide hand towels anymore due to being better for the environment so 4 of us struggled on with 1 bath towel each for 4 days which i didnt think was sufficient with 3 of us with very long hair and 2 of us showered twice daily. However they did send someone round with 1 bath sheet and 1 hand towel as a gesture of goodwill. ||||The hosts didnt greet us this time and everything was communicated via email leaving that non personal touch. ||||You can hire the hot tub out back for £20 per session but we didnt utilise it. ||||If we stay again it would definitely be in another room upstairs. Apart from this we did have a nice stay. ||||As someone else has already said it is a little overpriced for...
Read moreWe recently returned after a 5 night stay in Lower Styx. We liked the apartment which was so much better then the so called B+B we stayed in in Castelton previously. Parking was a bit tight if you had a large car but good to have. Liked having our own front door accessed with the key code which was simple to use. Inner door to apartment was a bit sticky so had to bang it to close. Breakfast items left to use such as small cereal boxes, orange juice and milk in fridge. Lots of tea and coffee plus coffee machine and some pods. Only used this twice as felt water was not hot enough. Our only gripe was there were no baking dishes apart from saucepans for cooking meals in oven, only a couple of flat baking trays. No food containers, bowls, jug either. In the end gave up and went out to the local pubs for evening meal. Not sure fan was working in bathroom as got very steamy and wet in there, could have done with mop to clear up water on floor. We did have a comfortable stay and walked for miles every day. No contact with owners although they were on the premises?||Tip : torch needed at night as totally...
Read moreThe property is centrally located, and the room is well presented it was also well equipped and very clean. Parking was good with four off road car parking spaces. I would say that a good tip would be to reverse off the road when parking then you will have no problem parking your car. |A top tip if you are staying here and like me are a stone age man in a technological world and who likes a couple of evening beers write the electronic lock entrance number on a piece of paper and keep it in your pocket, as it will be easier than trying to find the number on an email off your phone, lucky for me the lovely people who run the place undid the door for me and stopped us getting hypothermia :)). So, to summarise I really could not fault the place and wholeheartedly...
