4 of us went to tillys today with great expectations as i had read and planned the visit with me being celiac. The place was lovely looking inside and out and we had a table upstairs. We all ordered some food which looked lovely downstairs. This review is based on my own experience. I ordered a gluten free cream tea and my fiancee had a normal one with coffee at £3.95 each which is great. When it was brought to our table my fiancee's looked amazing and well presented and my gluten free version was half the size at best and i commented on this straight away but got no response. Others on the table had lovely sandwiches and excellent portion sizes too. When we had finished we sat there for about 20 minutes or more and didn't get a check back so had all the plates, cups, tea pots etc clogging up the table, at this time we were the only ones sitting upstairs and the place was pretty empty so they could of easily found the chance to come back in my eyes. We would like to come back with friends and family in the future after recently moving until the area. Hopefully any possible future visit will be as impressive as the other...
Read moreIn castleton there is a very good choice of places to eat and drink I've never been to such a small village where there's so much choice! We decided to eat here for a small lunch and coffee. Well, we were spoilt for choice a good selection of food from soup and sandwiches right upto a full hearty meal. They specialise in the Welsh rabbit or as we better know it as cheese on toast with a choice of 6 different accompaniments I oppted for ham it was delicious the ham was thick slices from the bone fresh to the locality and fresh salad the cheese on toast was great with thick tasty cheese melted with whole grain mustard in it was super tastey. Washed down with a nice string latte. My wife had cheese and homemade chutney sandwiches with homemade coleslaw and salad which was equally nice washed down with a fruit tea which they had about 12 if not more to choose from. They serve a small choice of bottled beer and wine. They also had a good choice of cakes. We oppted for Bakewell tart with custard to share and was awesome. Service friendly nice comfy chairs. Loved it. Can't...
Read moreI recently passed though Castleton travelling on public transport from Manchester. I had one hour 30 minutes in Castleton before my next bus but had a 10 minute stroll before deciding to refuel before doing any more exploring. I went into Tilly's tea rooms. and was given a table. Before anything else I had to 'pay a visit'. So I used up another 5 minutes of my time. It was another 5 minutes before I caught anybody's eye and then gave my order, simply a pot of tea and a toasted sandwich. However simple the order was, it took more than 40 minutes to arrive. This was only after going to the counter to ask about the delay. This left me just over 30 minutes to eat my sandwich, drink my tea and head to the bus station. Possibly because the staff were now rushing to complete the order, the sandwich was very lightly toasted on one side and just 'warmed' on the other. Needless to say I was unable to see much more of Castleton. Most of the staff were pleasant enough but clearly the kitchen systems need...
