First time visitor to this venue, quite shocking when you consider I’ve lived in Liverpool for ten years! 😲🤦🏻‍♂️.

However, that being said, it’s better late than never.

Booking online was easy to reserve my place for thee we tour of this house. As it’s only open at certain times in the year, I thought best to book up quickly in case of limited spaces.

On arrival I went to the front of the property but found it to be locked up. After reading a small “A” frame sign outside, it directs you to the rear of the property to reception.

At reception I introduced myself to Andy who explained that I was in fact; early. I panicked thinking I was late. So with a bit of time to spare, I took a short walk around the area. Plenty of old buildings and cathedrals to photograph.

When it was time to start the tour, it starts at the front of the building on Rodney Street. There I was met by Alan; my tour guide.

Alan was very friendly and professional at all times and luckily for me, turned out to be a 1-2-1 visit as I was the only person booked for that time slot. It meant a more relaxed time and more fact finding for me.

I really would highly recommend this tour, from booking online, to reception, to the tour with Alan and his wealth of knowledge, to the house itself and the plentiful stories to be told, it was fantastic.

I never checked the time of how long I was in there, but I would say 1 - 1 1/2 hours. It may sound a long time to some but if you have an interest in local history and photography, it may not feel like that time is long enough 😂👌🏻.

Not ideal for anyone who struggles with stairs as their are floors to discover all the history of this house. But if you’re able enough, then you will have a great time here. I will definitely...

Very informative and interesting tour. If you are going for a quick look around the house this is not for you. You can enter only by guided tours in the house, one every hour. In the majority of rooms, you are greeted and showed by a different guided. The staff was friendly and cognisant. The house is immense with 3 floors and a cave. You will discover not only about the life of Hardmans family and photography, but also about life around 1950s. With so much rooms with different uses, styles and tour guided it is not boring at all, it seemed as one of the quickest guided tour I had. If I remember well, they have more than 10k photos however few are exposed. I saw the Pet Gallery which was super cute (13...

I think today was my fourth visit here. We took a friend for his first visit. The guide was knowledgeable and new her history. A great house, left as it was. Step back in time and get the feel what life was like back then. Look out for the false teeth in the medicine cabinet 🤣 Free to National Trust members, bookable online. Small numbers on the tour, which is good. See the photography studio and their personal living area. Brilliant as always. Toilets available and a...

A great story about the Hardman's and a fascinating insight into their lives. A plethora of guides ensured that the story was not dull The rooms were interesting. With the new grant, the story will get better. No flash photography is allowed. Entry by timed tour might make it difficult to get in during busy periods so book as early as possible. A stone's throw from the Anglican Cathedral and a walk along Rodney Street completes the visit. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will go back.
