I ordered salad and mixed grille on charcoal section.
In short, salad bad, mixed grille amazing.
In long, I was really disappointed with the salad. It was placed on my table and the waitress walked off, not "there's your salad" or "there you go", nothing. It was so disappointing i didn't know if it was just complimentary like what they put down on all tables. As I looked round it became clear that this was my uninspiring, soulless salad. I had paid £4.95 to have the equivalent of a take away kebad salad in a bowl! Underwhelmed. The salad gets a 1.4 out of 10
I hoped the main would bring it back. And oh my gosh it really did! The lamb and the chicken were absolutely amazing! The taste, the texture, the charcoal, the marinade. It was truly something else. The rice was a little bland but nice salaa to jazz it up and a nice big green chilli aswell. The thin bread under the meat collecting the juices was a nice touch. My favourite Turkish restaurant in Sheffield takes some beating but this came close. I'd give the mixed grille a 8.8 out of 10. Maybe the rice could have been seasoned more, maybe throw in some leafy greens. But the meat! Wow!
Overall I would give this place a 3.1 out of 5. I would go again but just for the mixed grille. If they really can't try with the salad they should just take it off the menu or charge £1.49 for it which I still wouldn't pay.
I won't comment too much on the service as I know things are a little awkward at the minute with COVID. That said, other places seem to be coping well and still offering good service.
My advice, load up on meat, not much else is worth writing home about but the meat...
Read moreI was extremely impressed with this restaurant during my visit yesterday afternoon. Went in with my nanna who had been there before.
I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in liverpool, the food was far beyond my expectations :)
Seats were comfy, table very clean, and atmosphere in the restaurant was great but quite loud. The open kitchen was good to look at and all the food looked great when it was being cooked on the grill.
Toilets are good and are situated at the back of the restaurant.
We had the lunch menu at 14.95 for 2 courses which was amazing value for money.
My nanna had her usual liver to start with a chicken and lamb main. The liver and chicken were so good. Some of the tastiest chicken I have ever eaten.
I myself had the grilled aubergine starter and vegetable moussaka.
Our starter came accompanied by the some of the tastiest homemade bread I have ever eaten. Similar to focaccia.
And the mains came accompanied by a tasty salad and dressing with carrots, cabbage, cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce.
It was definitely a 5/5 dining experience but nothing is ever perfect. The initial greeter seemed a bit disinterested and I wouldn't want to be sat at the back 2 tables if I was a customer as they are situated extremely close to the toilets. But apart from that can't speak highly enough of this restaurant.
Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy Turkish or grilled food and you are in the area. Highly...
Read moreAfter a great experience at Elif Castle Street, we decided to try the Bold Street branch and it did not disappoint.
This one’s a bit more relaxed than its counterpart. There’s no dress code, it’s more affordable, and just as buzzing. We didn’t want to drop another £100+ on food so went for the two courses for £15.95 deal (solid value for money). We were seated straight away even though, just like Castle Street, the place was PACKED. Elif is clearly a fan favourite in the local area.
Service here was noticeably quicker. Food arrived within 10 minutes of sitting down, hot and fresh.
I went for chicken wings to start and the lamb Iskender (couldn’t resist after how good it was last time). My partner had the garlic mushrooms (she’s hooked) and the mixed kebab. Everything was cooked just right. None of the meat was dry or undercooked. There was just well-seasoned an tasty food across the board.
Overall, this branch might be the winner for us. The vibe’s a little more chill and intimate with friendlier prices, and the food still absolutely slaps. I’m not fussed about fancy lighting or putting on a shirt with a collar, my main concern is the food so if the food’s good, I’m there. And Bold Street Elif definitely delivers on that front. (Though I’ve no clue if they actually deliver, so maybe don’t go looking on Uber...
