An oasis of peace.b"Ever seen wall paper from a long gone era of distinction and that is hasn't been changed since it was put on the walls" Feast your eyes and wait no longer. Small disabled/parking spaces at the front and a free entry to the museum.

At the end of the visit the veranda where once the front entrance used to be provided a welcome moment to sit relax and eat our lunch. Not brought your lunch? Not a problem as there is a café on site.

Very accessible and over two floors with a lift. Helpful kind and knowledgeable staff. Accessible toilets and spacious enough environment for people who might need a little extra space when moving around. There is a dedicated memorial garden to the Hillsborough disaster and local people who tragically lost their lives are named on a statue of remembrance. A note on the gate asking for respectful use of this area & I personally wouldn't take a dog in there as just beyond is a spacious parklands/gardens for people who wish to exercise their pets.

In one of the rooms I got a internal message, which I occasionally do get & it went very simply "I don't belong" this came from observing one of the many beautiful paintings as part of the collection on display. A rather pale almost blueish looking lady and her portrait spoke to me. After carefully listening to the guide it appears that the painter felt somewhat inferior when he compared his painting skills with those other famous artists. I had no idea about the facts but quite possibly explained the message I received.

A wonderful warm atmosphere and we shall return in the near future. Highly...

I can't fault sudley house and the art at all, or the staff , but it was the size of the meal in the cafe that I wasn't happy with. I've been to Sudley a few times before and for lunch I've had their scouse but since the last occasion the size of the bowl has shrunk, I'd say about half the size ! The scouse was lovely but really , after about 5 mouthfuls the bowl was empty. I was told the portion is a child's portion and in the larger galleries its £8 instead of the £6 here. So after I'd said I'd be happy to be paying the £8 to get a bigger portion here I was told we only offer that size here. I find this the most bizarre answer , so people that visit Sudley are getting smaller portions. At £6 that's almost £1 a mouthful and as nice as it was it wasn't good value if it still leaves you feeling hungry. I was offered a free cake as I wasn't happy , which I accepted , but what I really wanted was a meal for an adult. Really poor this, and has left me questioning if I'll ever use the cafe here again. Such a shame as I'm sure there's many that will feel the same but not...

This historic Victorian merchant's house offers a glimpse into the past with its beautifully preserved interiors and fascinating art collection. The house is surrounded by tranquil gardens, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing day out.

What truly stands out is the personal touch—walking through the house feels like stepping back in time, with original furnishings and paintings that tell the story of a wealthy merchant family. The art collection is particularly impressive, featuring works by Turner, Gainsborough, and other renowned artists, all housed in such an intimate setting.

The staff are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, always happy to share insights about the exhibits and the history of the house. Best of all, entry is free, making this a must-visit for anyone interested in history, art, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat.

The on-site café is a lovely bonus, offering a good selection of refreshments. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Liverpool, Sudley House is a treasure worth exploring. Highly...

This is a really nice historical property to walk around, particularly the ground floor which the council have attempted to restore to it's original glory. The gardens are very tranquil and the coffee shop popular with a good range of light dishes, snacks and refreshments. It's a nice, low key venue to relax in as you walk around. Also impressive is the art collection with Turners and Gainsborough amongst others - all collected by the original owner of the house. Similarly, I particularly enjoyed getting amongst the exhibits, unlike at National Trust properties which tend to rope-off rooms - well done Liverpool City Council

Sudley House was built in 1821 by Liverpool merchant Nicholas Robinson, on land originally owned by the Tarleton family. The architect was probably a local man, John Whiteside Casson. Both Robinson and the Tarletons had links to transatlantic slavery, and both owed at least part of their fortunes to it. The paintings at Sudley are now the only surviving, intact collection of artworks once owned by a merchant family. The museum is free to enter with donations encouraged. There is limited free parking on site. There is a cafe inside with toilets. The grounds of the house are also interesting to explore.

Was walking past with my walking group and thought we'd have a look inside. The place is beautifully kept and a pleasure to walk around. Staff were very helpful and very knowledgeable on the details of each room. I would have liked to tour the garden but unfortunately it was raining. We went to the cafe for a cup of tea but it was full ( it was half term) so never got to try it out either. Will have to call back another day. The other good thing about the place is that it's totally free of charge, so it's somewhere to take the kids next time they're off school.
