US travellers should seriously reconsider and avoid booking this hotel for business visits. This is not a "5-star" hotel by any wild stretch of imagination. You're paying Mayfair hotel rates for Holiday Inn. The list of issues I ran into was endless. But in no specific order:
Their phone system does not work outside of UK. It is a fact. They are doing some "IT Upgrade" and it has been going on for weeks or something. I could not reach anyone to request for assistance until I finally got there. So if you need to amend your reservation, request for mail hold or anything else where you need to talk to a person at a hotel you will be out of luck
The hotel does not accept AMEX cards. I was in a business meeting. I handed the card to the lady and she comes back and says their bank card systems are old and does not offer American Express Cards. I was forced to take out my non office cards to pay. In Central London, even local food trucks accept AMEX. This is a strange place
The hotel will charge you for every small amenities. I have stayed at various other hotels, and here at St. Martins Lane Hotel, they have charges on everything from shaving cream to toothpaste. There are tags attached to laundry bags announcing £ 15 charge if the laundry bag is not replaced. I mean seriously, looks so cheap
The staff have not had proper training at all. One literally charged at us as we were holding a Prosecco glass and about to step outside. At least he could have offered a paper cup, but no, ... he acted as if he were the bouncer-in-charge. I can understand he's just doing his job, but I know how they handle issues in real "5-*" hotels and it is much more elegant and sophisticated
The rooms have very funny lighting, etc. Which is great if you like it, but that doesn't justtify the cost. Besides, there are issues in every room. In outs, the doors in the restroom were half broken, neither the shower door nor the door to the toilet could be closed shut entirely.
Overall, I'd strongly advise against staying at St. Martins Lane London. Also the location is very hard to find. Our Uber driver could not even locate the place and ended up dropping us off at the wrong location and it took ages to find the place on foot...
Read moreJust came back from a very pleasant stay at St Martins Lane hotel. I booked a junior suite for my two teenage daughters and myself to spend four nights during their autumn break. ||The room was clean, very modern and the bed was very comfortable. ||Extra good parts:|1. Very kind and friendly staff. I would like to mention the housekeeping staff and the man who greeted us and helped with our bags. He had done a genealogical dna test which we chatted about. He was very helpful and went out of his way with service as well as knowledge on fun things to explore. ||2. The breakfast buffet and the staff there. ||3. The bath was big and very comfy. :-)||4. It was fun to try the Dyson air wrap. ||Wishes for the future:|1. We were told that all snacks and non alcoholic drinks were included and we got this both in writing and through asking the staff. Each item in the mini bar had high prices (5-7 pounds for one item) but since it was free I let the teenagers snack to their hearts delight. When we were checking out we had the charges for each item on our bill but was told that it was going to be removed before the final invoice was sent out. ||Back home I received the invoice and the charges was still there. I contacted the hotel and was told that I had a 100 pound limit and was charged for the rest. It was only a few pounds but it doesn’t sit right with me when I wasn’t informed of this until I had gone back home even through I asked two times during our stay and we went through every charge before I checked out. I feel a bit taken for a fool to be honest. Because if this I only gave you 4 stars instead of five. ||2. We had a wonderful view from our room but it was hard to look out the windows since the blinds was permanently down. Perhaps a film to stop people from looking in could be used instead? ||3. It would have been nice with a door between the bathroom and the room. There was a glass door between the bathroom and toilet but a bit more privacy would be appreciated. ||Thank you for...
Read moreYou don’t always get what you pay for. Despite the cost and 5-star rating, this hotel doesn’t comes close to it and some 4-stars hotels within a 1-mile radius offer similar and better amenities. The last star is for the location, which is great and well positioned in Covent Garden.
The room is average, bed extremely uncomfortable, bathroom lacking, desk-space hazardous, and the Deluxe King room is small, and it’s loud! From other guests yelling up and down the hallways to construction work(?) this is not where you want to spend your vacation. Nights, morning or day, it’s loud and this is a hotel you just come to have drinks (they’re great!) and sleep.
The lobby is beautiful, but what we’ve seen of the floors and room is left to be desired based on pictures and some of the reviews. If you’re over 6’ skip it entirely, the ceilings are low (5’5” here, can touch the ceilings in the hall without lifting my feet off the ground) and hallways are dark. The bathroom is simple, but old and there are cracks in the shower and on the toilet seat (with the body oils of everyone who sat on it before). The toilet door is damaged and overall the bathroom doesn’t provide any privacy at all (which I didn’t know before arriving). The cleaning crew is on top of things, they first came within hours of our arrival, which was weird (but there’s not enough cleaning you can do to cracks in the bathroom).
Overall, when we manage to stay asleep, we wake up unrested, with back pains (from the hard, uncomfortable and sliding bed) and headaches from all the ruckus in and near the hotel. I brought up the discomfort with the bed but nothing can be done as apparently all the beds are the same (hard, uncomfortable and sliding). We’re in our 30s and never woke up with so much pains.
Don’t do like us and spend your vacation and time away from work uncomfortable and with pains. RESEARCH more before committing...
