I am rating the service & quality of the cake.
I know we're in a strange time with covid so I'm always happy to order from a small family business. Sakurado is one of them. I have read many wonderful reviews and some mixed reviews but benefit of the doubt, I wanted to give it a go.
I ordered the Black Sesame Mille Crepe Cake, as well as the Curry Bun and the Cheese & Edamame Bun. The Black Sesame Mille Crepe Cake was loved. It's a thumbs up for the Curry Bun too. However the Cheese & Edamame Bun was lacking in flavour. It was bland so we're pretty disappointed with it.
Another issue I wanted to raise was the delivery part. I placed my order through whatsapp with the owner, Mei, since the delivery charge was excessive on their website as it was calculating it being delivered from one of their furthest hub. I requested for a time slot but I can't and have been advised it will be around 2pm. On the day, 30 mins before 2pm I requested for an update. She replied with "very soon". And when pressed on with "when?", she said she will check. 1hr 20 mins later, still no response and when I asked again, she said "on the way". It didn't arrive until 4.50pm!!!!! The driver apologised for the delay but the owner... not a single word from her.
Firstly, the order was not cheap. I even pointed out to her that she has charged me with the incorrect price (ÂŁ10 less) so I would appreciate that for a small family business, you should value an honest customer. Secondly, not providing a time slot and not advising the recipient nor the customer who has placed the order when the order is out is poor customer services. With such a HUGE delay and never once advised the customer on the day that there's going to be a delay, it is not acceptable. The driver has apologised. Where is the owner's apologies? Never once did she apologise in the messages when I asked her where the delivery was. It was agreed for around 2pm, not almost 5pm!
Although the mille crepe cake and the curry buns were nice, I will not place any order with them for delivery again. It was supposed to be eaten in the afternoon but since the delivery didn't arrive till late afternoon (4.50pm). it has ruined the occasion for...
Read moreA quaint patisserie that specializes in Japanese takes of French classics recommended if you love Asian flavors like green tea. Prices are a bit higher for some items than previously shown.
I tried their signature Matcha Millefeuille cake and Vanilla Oolong tea and recommend it. The price came about to about 16 pounds for both. As with many asian-takes on European sweets, sugar was lighter than their original counterparts, allowing for the flavors of the ingredients to shine through. This was true of both the cake and the tea.
The Millefeuille was overall, lighter than a traditional Millefeuille you'd find in Paris, but denser than similar cake from shops like Lady M. Sakura DPS Millefeuille features multiple thin layers of crepe and cream, resulting in a mousse like texture. Their matcha felt brighter and more vegetal than the common culinary grade, with a softer bitter finish, but did not reach the strength of a ceremonial grade.
Vanilla Oolong tea was definitely milkier than what I am accustomed to and I personally would prefer more Oolong and vanilla. However it worked well to compliment rather than overpower the matcha cake. As a standalone, the matcha is likely better assuming they are using a similar quality in their drinks.
Seating consists of a counter along the shop and 5 tables in the back that can seat...
Read moreCame here yesterday with 6 others. Each ordered cake and drink each to have in the cafe.
There's a lot to choose from, but there was a durian crepe cake that was not something you usually see. I grew up eating durian, so I was excited to try this. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. It tasted sour and not your cream cheese frosting tangy flavour, but more like it was expired sour.
I approached the lady at the till and she told me that durian has a different unique flavour and the cakes were delivered that morning. I explained that I understood this and that I've had durian many times in many forms and it never tastes like this. She repeated herself again and again so I gave up and ended up not eating it as it tasted awful.
The cake shop is lovely, just really let down by the reluctance to recitfy an issue I felt was met with so much unnecessary resistance. Instead of listening to me, she just kept reiterating that they came this morning.
Ended up leaving with a "sour" taste in my mouth literally. Will not come back again purely because of...
