I rarely share personal experiences online, but this is something I feel compelled to write so that Yvonne Osman, the incredible owner and creative force behind Fait Maison, knows just how extraordinary her team is. I have traveled all over the world for my demanding job, and I have come to understand more and more how precious time is. I found myself in one of the most devastating moments of my life when I learned I was having a stillbirth, and it happened while I was sitting in the beautiful garden terrace at your 5 Stratford Rd location. I had almost no time, almost no warning, and yet I was met with care, calm, and humanity by someone truly remarkable.
Michauł, who I understand works for one of your other branches, quite literally saved my life that day. His professionalism, compassion, and warmth went beyond anything I could have hoped for. He was attentive, calm, and reassuring in a moment that felt utterly overwhelming. I cannot express in words how grateful I am to him. He made me feel seen, supported, and safe when everything around me felt unbearable. Michauł is a rare human being, and anyone who has the privilege of meeting him is lucky beyond measure.
I also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge you, Yvonne Osman, as an exceptional boss. It is clear that your passion and vision extend far beyond your menu and your restaurants; you hire people who are not only talented professionals but extraordinary humans. The way Michauł acted is a direct reflection of the culture and values you cultivate at Fait Maison. I tried to visit your beautiful shops twice to thank you in person, but unfortunately, I never managed to see you. I will continue to try, and I hope to see you when I am next in the UK, likely in South Kensington or the Kensington and Chelsea borough.
To anyone reading this, Fait Maison is not just a place of exquisite food and hospitality. It is a place where human decency, empathy, and care are woven into every interaction. Michauł embodies this in the most profound way, and Yvonne, you should know that your team is extraordinary. I will forever be grateful for what he did for me, and I hope that anyone who experiences something horrendous in their life is fortunate enough to have someone like him by their side.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Michauł, and thank you, Yvonne, for creating a space where excellence and humanity meet so...
Read moreWas recommended this place for afternoon tea and was somewhat impressed by the Instagram pics online to entice us, however mine and my friend's experience was not a great one.
We ordered a dish each, with the recommended afternoon tea as a sweet treat, this came in good time but we soon noticed that there was no finger sandwiches as stated on the menu. When enquired, the waitress laughed and said that they don't usually serve afternoon tea at that time (this was around 1pm) and that they didn't have any sandwiches at the moment, they are made for the later run? (No idea what that means). She said that she still took our order and that they have replaced it with a few jam pastry slices and 2 mini quiches (as if she has done us a favour) which we was not informed about or agreed to. Shambles! We asked to cancel as price is kind of extortionate for a few sweets and a pot of green tea! There was much back and forth between 2 servers who clearly didn't want to cancel the order - even though we requested. They just kept saying, I will speak to my manager and then miraculously a few finger sandwiches appeared! - We reluctantly accepted as to not cause any conflict but I would say its a regretful experience coming here.
My sour dough bread and avocado was soaked and soggy from the poached eggs that has not been drained properly from the water that it was boiled in and was clearly slapped on. They didn't have my friend's dish and did not mention this untill all the food but hers came which is bad service and organisation.
As a final verdict I would say that service is slow and unorganised but friendly - servers need to work on their hospitality skills. Food is not great for the price they are asking for - you would definitely get better quality and value for money at your local cafe/bakery than here! ALSO do not believe what you see online in terms of fancy pics, as they say, Instagram is not real life! - you will most certainly experience the unexpected in terms of food and decor! Hate to join the moany reviews club but I'm sad to say, this has not been an very enjoyable experience and most of the negative reviews on...
Read moreThis is an 'instagram-beautiful' cafe which is a good place to eat but do not allow the appearance to raise your expectations too high. The pricing of the cakes does reflect the 'visual prestige' though.
The food is mainly arabic and is good quality. Along with that, the restaurant is a bit of a haven for the arabic community and this is reflected in the vibe and the general culture of the restaurant. I would recommend the lamb dishes and will commend them on how much meat they provide with the large portions.
The service was good though it took too long for the food to come, though lamb may take a little bit longer, we only received our food when we explicitly asked for it which is always a bad sign for me. Means that the food was sitting their waiting for service and it took our prompting to get it brought. Nothing worse than your food sitting out getting cold.
The egg florentine was great also. Good portions and tasty food.
The deserts were underwhelming and frankly disappointing although they look quite nice.
Nothing we had was bad but with the reputation and the presentation of the restaurant we had hoped for more. In truth, it is a decent spot for food where you can take wonderful pictures or be a bit extravagant. The food doesn't quite match the facade of the restaurant but is still fairly good.
Be mindful that the facade is paid for, a single caramel nata for over £6 is extortionate. Although the mains are quite reasonably priced, especially with the lamb portions, the cakes were horrifically priced and in no way matched the price with...
