🚇 Gloucester Road 🍺 £6.20 Estrella ❤️ A large Grade II listed corner pub in SW7. . This 19th century pub sits boldly on a corner of Gloucester Rd in plush South Kensington. Getting here is easy with Gloucester Rd tube just a five minute walk away. . This is a Greene King pub which thankfully maintains its elegance and hasn’t been plastered in the garish green and gold signage you see on the majority of Greene King’s central London pubs. . This boozer is a good size and has a traditional feel to it. There are dark wood floors and dark wood wall panelling throughout. There are loads of seating options which makes this pub good for large groups and the servery has plenty of standing space for busier times. Sports fans won’t be disappointed as there are a few screens showing live sport. . Today’s pint here was Estrella, It was a decent pint and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Price point was just above average for London. There’s plenty of pub grub on offer here, fish and chips costs £15.29. . The staff here were welcoming and attentive, the chap who served me was most courteous. The atmosphere was chilled with the odd outbreak of laughter from a nice bunch of young Irish lads who were having the craic. I was watching Soccer Saturday along with a few other punters, this would be a good place to watch the World Cup games. . The @gloucester_arms was a nice surprise and I really enjoyed this pub. Definitely worth a look when you’re in South Ken. . ℹ️ Information correct on...
Read moreJack turned my experience into a 5-star overall, because his food recommendations were spot on (fish & chips with the mushy peas), service was above and beyond, and he smoothed over my disappointment about the pub not showing any American NFL games, contrary to both my Google search and their reviews on this specifically. For that reason I gave a 4-star instead of a 5...
While I understand that local favorite sporting endeavors (Formula One in this case) trump foreign sporting initiatives, it should be considered to accommodate when there are thousands of foreigners (Americans in this case) in town (for NFL football in this case), and not one of four tvs could be changed.
I'm not the only foreign visitor group(s) here right now which also walked to four different bars in the area with claims and reviews to specifically airing American football, but were disappointed and left high and dry in the end.
If the tables were turned, I have no doubt that Any bar in my hometown would've made sure Formula One, NFL football AND Premier League soccer each got a tv, if there were three tvs, and just one patron asked (and it were possible).
Thanks to Jack, I left happy...
Read moreCame in for something for lunch time, we tried to order a couple of items but was informed that about half of the meny was unavailable due to the chef leaving. This was completely fine, can understand that it takes time to employ another one. However, when the food arrived the chicken wings looked dried up and old and tasted of nothing, neither did the garlic sauce that came out with it. The lasagna was reheated and mushy, tasting like something out of a can. We told this to the waiters as we did pay 20 pounds for this. First server was nothing but lovely and really sorry we didn't enjoy the food. He asked his colleague if it was possible to make a refund for the food which we didn't even expect but really nice. Colleague said this was not possible and was denying our complaints... we asked if the food was made fresh and not reheated, her answer was "yes it doesn't get any fresher, we make it all fresh, freeze it and the heat it again". At this point it all seemed like a joke, and all she could do was get us a free drink.... Might be obvious, but we won't be...
