A Sad Experience at Union Park
We’ve been regular visitors to Union Play Park for many years, and our son absolutely loves it here. It has always been a joyful and friendly environment, which is why what happened recently was particularly upsetting for us.
After a hospital visit, we brought our son to the park for some fresh air and fun. He was excited to go on the swings, which are always in high demand. He waited patiently next to the swings with my husband, while both swings were occupied. After some time, one swing finally became available. Just as my husband was helping our son onto it, another girl child suddenly ran in and grabbed the swing. My husband, trying to avoid any conflict or risk of a push or hit, gently stepped back with our son.
What disappointed us most was the behaviour of the child’s parent — rather than encouraging fairness or offering a simple, polite word like “you were here first,” they stayed silent and let their child take the swing. It felt like they were taking advantage of the situation rather than showing basic courtesy.
Soon after, the second swing became available. At that point, another parent who had been sitting on a bench since we arrived — and hadn’t once been near the swings — suddenly came over and claimed they had been waiting. This was simply not true. We had been standing and waiting by the swings the entire time, while she was clearly seated and not showing any sign of waiting. Again, we chose to avoid conflict for the sake of our son’s peace and enjoyment. But this kind of behaviour is frustrating and unfair. I mean to be fair we could go and say we’ve been waiting too just like you but just for our child’s sake we said the wise thing is to be respectful and calm
We truly believe parks should be a place where children can play and learn from the positive examples set by the adults around them. It would be helpful if there were clear signage in the park reminding parents to be mindful of others, and not to “claim” swings while sitting away from them. Waiting should be visible and fair — especially when so many little ones are eagerly hoping for their turn.
We’ve never had such a sad experience here before, and we sincerely hope it’s a one-off. But we wanted to share it in the hope that more awareness can help maintain the kind, respectful atmosphere that parks like this should always offer.
A Kind Request to Park Management
It would be really helpful to have clear signage in the park, especially near the swings, reminding parents to be respectful and fair when it comes to turn-taking. Some parents, unfortunately, behave in a very cheeky and unfair manner — claiming they were “waiting” while sitting far away or letting their children cut in front of others who have been patiently standing by.
It’s not right, and it sets a poor example for the children. Clear signs could go a long way in discouraging this kind of behaviour and help make the park a more positive and respectful space...
Read moreUnion Park is a refreshing escape right next to the buzz of Wembley Stadium. It’s not a massive park, but it’s beautifully designed—with open lawns, a peaceful pond, a kids’ play area, and some really nice walking paths. Perfect for a quick break from the crowds or a relaxed stroll with family or pets.
I especially liked the little butterfly sculpture and the way the park feels tucked away from the busy city vibe, even though it’s right in the middle of it all. There’s also a small outdoor gym and plenty of space for children to play.
That said, it could use a bit more upkeep in some areas—on one visit, the pond was a bit murky and some paths were waterlogged. But it’s still clean, safe, and overall very pleasant.
Pros: ✔ Great location near Wembley Park ✔ Lovely landscaping and peaceful vibe ✔ Family-friendly and dog-friendly ✔ Good for light...
