I started in this University in September 2019. I had been told online to avoid Universities like this as all costs. One man told me the right thing. When Universities need to advertise for themselves or advertise themselves about irrelevant things like ''student satisfaction'' there must be something wrong with them.
I believed in this University. The teachers and the facilities(also irrelevant) seem great. I will have an amazing time and learn new things.
However from the first week we started a laboratory that has material from the Seminar that is after the laboratory. Excuse me? How am i supposed to know what to write down? This is the 4th week today and the teacher replied to me '' I am not supposed to tell you.'' Excuse me? You expect me to answer the question without knowing the command to execute the function?
We go to the seminar and we write our weekly test at the start. It is the 4th consecutive week that half of the test has material that has not been taught. The Doctor's answer was ''they were not in the slides but I have recommended you 5 books to read, you should know!''. Oh wait, if the material was not in the slides and you ask me to read these 5 books then why I pay 9000 pounds? I can do that by myself for free. Fast-forward, I will probably graduate with a 50% Degree because someone chose to put a test on a 1st year student with material from all books that exist in Computer Science and the answer is: ''but I listed those books!!''.
These things have been repeated every week and this is week 4. At first I said to myself there must be some kind of error but there is no error. This is an actual tradition. Teachers make typos in the slides and you feel embarrassed to point it out but someone else does it for you then the teacher just doesn't feel any embarrassment.. he comes back doing the same thing next week. Students had to point out to a Doctor that he was using quotation marks wrong!! and the same man said that you can lose 10% when you make grammatical errors. Practise what you preach!. People ask questions about basic things that amateurs like me can answer and the teachers reply with ''I don't know''.
I have given these people 1 month but things have not been looking very promising. I have to apologize for my sarcastic writing however I feel extremely awful right now. Unfortunately I have understood that I have to study by myself and graduate from here just for my CV's sake. I strongly recommend everyone to avoid applying to this University unless it is your...
Read moreThis university should start listening to people rather than just pretending to listen.
UWL just keeps on surprising me. I left my job which i managed to keep for 10 years and came all the way to London to do my MBA. Other than having classmates with minimal or no years of experience, we had to switch to online learning (which i could have done whilst staying in my country and having my paycheck). I understand that there is a pandemic and we should stay home, but the university should at least have a robust infrastructure for online leaning which i think UWL doesn't have. The online learning platform kept of going down, we even lost some lectures on the way because of that.
Mid-crisis the university launched a Buddying Project by the Student Union. The concept was about pairing students with staff members to ensure the well-being of international students. I received an email from my buddy asking me how i am co-oping with the crisis. It felt really nice to have the uni lookout for me, until i never got a reply from my "Buddy".
Secondly, due to the pandemic my plans changed and i have to stay in London during the summer, meaning extra cost. No matter how hard i tried to find an internship or a job, i couldn't because of the current situation; I tried to reach out for the program leader to support me, but I never received a reply to my email; at least to guide me through my options during the crisis.
Finally, when i tried to utilise what UWL markets itself for: "Just ask, we are here to support you", my request for a financial aid was declined. Even my question about scholarships and bursaries, which were supposed to be open last March, was not answered by the finance department.
I don't usually provide feedback especially when having a bad experience with things i do or get; In the end this university was MY choice; however, it really gets to me when i receive daily emails from UWL pretending it cares for me, when it...
Read moreSpent 4 years here, teaching is outstanding, but the graduation team is shocking. I'm going to be graduating this summer, I'm massively disappointed because there are no additional tickets left. This was the same problem as last year as students couldn't get any additional tickets.
With the amount of money us students put into education throughout this university experience, we should be entitled to have additional tickets. It's massively disappointing as graduation is where you wanna celebrate your achievement with your loved ones.
As it is, you have to pay for the two tickets you're allowed to have for two guest, it's just a money grabbing event. Scrap additional tickets if everyone can't have additional tickets to make it fair for everyone else.
I've sent a few messages to the graduation team and stated that they will notify me when there are any available a few weeks before graduation. This is not good enough as families have to fly here or/and book off work, not knowing if they can attend or not. My partner can only book two months in advance because he works for the government. Not everyone has the privilege to wait a few weeks before graduation to know the unknown. I know a lot of other students who are disappointed.
I am also aware that students who have bought additional tickets resell them or give them away because guest can't attend, this again is unfair to people who couldn't get hold of these tickets. Alot of students from past graduations had more then the additional tickets because they have purchased from other students this meant they had 7+ guest with them (total of tickets per student is 5 including theirs which is free) making it unfair for students who only had two because tickets were...
