Fantastic space to relax and play. Manchester's newest park (and first city centre park in over 100-years) is a great example of what can be achieved when public-private partnerships work together successfully. The park is located close to Piccadilly Train station behind the Marriott Hotel and the Unite Student accommodation. From Piccadilly there are a number of practical and playful signs directing you to the Baring street entrance. The area around the park is currently being regeneratrd and there is quite a bit of construction happening close by, so parking around the park itself isn't that easy but there are some paid and display car parks close by and access via train / tram is of course super easy given the parks proximity to the train station. Once on Baring street you will reach the contemporary park gates that include some practical information about the park, opening and closing times, and a friendly reminder not to smoke. This park is Manchester's first smoke free park and everyone respected and observed this rule, which I think is really positive and good for the overall vibe of the park. The park is landscaped to beautifully incorporate the River Medlock, which meanders through the park and creates a really welcome water feature. The main paths operate in a figure of eight and either way lead you through the park towards the playground and facilities, which are located to the rear.
The playground is the stand out feature of this park offering some of the best slides and play equipment in the area. My kids loved the drop slide and the long slide across the river. It was really busy when we visited as lots of families clearly use this park, but the equipment was spotless throughout.
The park also benefits from some really clean toilets and there are park marshalls around the playground making sure that everyone and everything is working as they should and facilities are being respected and enjoyed by all.
There is a small cafe onsite that sells coffees and light snacks and there was a lovely ice cream van too.
In summary, I think Mayfield is a fantastic edition to Manchester and something special is occurring in this part of the city as a direct result of...

Read moreWe recently visited Mayfield Park in Manchester and were thoroughly impressed. This play area is truly one-of-a-kind, offering a fantastic experience for both kids and families. The creatively designed slides, some even spanning over a canal, were a highlight. Additionally, the park features beautiful swings, seesaws, and a variety of engaging obstacles for the kids.
The facilities are top-notch, providing a relaxing environment. The cleanliness of the washrooms and toilets was exceptional. Moreover, its proximity to Freight Island and Deport Mayfield dining areas is a definite plus.
Safety is a priority here, with two on-site security guards and CCTV in place. While there's no dedicated car park, ample on-street parking can be found on Chapalfield Road, Holly Street, or Temperance Street. The park's location near the A365 Road makes it easily accessible.
Just be sure to check if there's a match at Etihad Stadium before planning your visit. Overall, we highly recommend this...
