Fish and chips, Mini fish and chips, Battered sausage, and Irish curry sauce. To start with the positves, the irish curry sauce was probably the best ive ever had, really top and a must order. The chips were also just about as good as your gonna get with vegetable oil. Great blistered texture and Im assuming atleast twice cooked? They were crisp and fluffy, really nice. The portion sizes were reasonable. For the standard fish and chips you get (Ā£9.70) a largeish container of chips and a small fillet of fish.. although when comparing it to the "mini fish and chips" I wouldnt be suprised if the "mini" is a trim cut off a larger fillet... mabye... in any case the fish was also good, and the batter light, airy, and not overly greasy. The battered sausage were served from the counter heater and to be honest, I weirdly enough prefer them like that, but I think most people dont, so probably worth flagging. Chips and fish were quickly wrapped and served without asking if wed like salt or vinegar... i think they were seasoned, but we wanted more vinegar and more salt... In summary, if your looking to wind back the clock to the good old days of Beef Tallow and Coal mines, you wont find that here. But if your looking for a good clean fish and chips that wont break the bank or an artery, this is probably worth a shot and with a few small changes this could be one of the best chippys...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been here three times over the last few months whenever weāve been in the mood for a tasty chippy. Each time weāve given it the benefit of the doubt as the food has been alright and better than alternatives in the area.
However, be warned that there are ALWAYS ridiculously long wait times. Last night we waited nearly 40 minutes after ordering to get our food. It did seem a particularly busy night, but weāve experienced this numerous times before, so itās not just a one off.
Staff seem uninterested in serving patrons in a timely fashion, and there always seems to be a wait forā¦chips. Arguably the most important component at a chippy. The fish tasted overly oily too.
Thereās also an alarming number of people just eating their food in the space, if youāve seen it, itās not big. So having 15 (drunk) people eating while thereās another 15 waiting was really poor. Tell them to eat outside! Itās not a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI come to this chippy semi regularly and the chips are always great. They have a very good selection of sauces, including three types of curry sauce and the gravy and mushy peas are glorious.
The meat and potato pies are extremely nice, and I regularly get the battered sausage, whereby the sausage is a naughty combination of flavour, without being too fancy. I'd like to think I speak for most of the nation when I say I like a heavily herbed/spiced sausage, but not with my chippy tea.
Only downfall with this place, and it's quite important for a chippy, is that the fish isn't great. But take my word that the other stuff is lovely. If you want battered fish, I'd recommend you go to anchor's up the road and pay £20 for the cod, because the pollock is...
