This attractive, albeit narrow, bridge is one of the main routes into central Oxford, so traffic is busy, but the views up and down river are very good. Swallows and bats roost in the historic arches in season and can often be seen hunting midges along the river. The large friendly pub by the bridge is popular with tourists and locals, with good beer and food all day. Boat hire is available in summer months. Pleasant walks along the Thames Path are accessible via footpath, and Salters run regular boat tours from the historic jetty. Opposite Head of the River pub there is board a cross the bridge which says Salter. That is the office of the boat jetty. It is all about the Oxford University boating Regatta. Many anecdotes and gossip about what students do at the river. Very interesting. Worth a visit. Also walk down the path besides the river and feed bread to the ducks. Read moreI walked here to see if it was the bridge filmed in a recent tv production called A discovery of witches. It's a good walk out of the main town. It's past the Thames Valley Police station and be cautious there are are lot of rough sleepers this end of town. I couldn't easily see the bridge face I found are footpath that lead me to the side of some flats and I saw the uni guys and girls practicing their rowing which was great to see and managed to see that face side of the bridge but there was no way of seeing the other side of the bridge I couldn't see aren't clear path the opposite side of the road.
