Sunday 21st January I really enjoyed my first Sunday roast here this weekend š Overall it was a really lovely experience and I shall definitely be visiting again in the near future. However that being said, we each ordered the Trio roast which came with all the traditional trimmings as expected but was barely luke warm and the roast potatoes were slightly undercooked. It was presented well though and the portions were more than adequate for the price. We each ordered a glass of Pinot Noir which unfortunately had to be sent back as it was rather acidic. We ordered a replacement of Merlot which again unfortunately was only slightly better and one glass had a lipstick print which was very off putting. I then rounded off with the Apple and Damson crumble with custard which was perfect. Served hot and again of an ample portion for the price. Had these issues not occurred I would say it was a wonderful lunch. It was delivered with great service and humorous enthusiasm by the delightful Sam who is truly an asset to the team. Thanks Sam š I would also like to take this opportunity to mention another server called Alison who although was very busy, took the time to stop by our table for a warm and welcoming chat making the overall experience a happy one. Thanks Alison š The layout of the entire venue is a labyrinth of nooks and crannies which adds to the charming warmth and cosiness of the place and covers two floors. There are also private dining areas ideal for meetings and celebratory gatherings. The option to dine outside in the garden area is an absolute gem of an experience right in the heart of Gloucester Green. The seating, lighting, heating, decor and spacious pockets of privacy provides beautifully shielded areas for the ultimate alfresco social environment. See you again soon!

My family and I arrived hungry and eager for a pub lunch and we left satiated, replete and utterly happy. The atmosphere was great, food was fantastic and the service impeccable. Alison kept a close watch over us and made sure we had everything we needed and she did a fabulous job with great humour and personality. I had a Dirty Burger which was 'ooohhhh' and 'mmmmm' at every bite. My wife had the King Prawn and Crab Linguine and our murmurs of appreciation were a stereo performance through lunch. My daughter has a nut allergy and Alison made sure to go through everything with her to ensure our holiday wasn't spoiled by epipens, visits to the hospital and whatnots. Daughter's partner and my sister both had pies and my son had a different burger. I can't tell you which (are there more than 2 burgers?) because he is lying fast asleep near me as I type this the next morning, probably dreaming of the lunch he had yesterday. All in all, a wonderful lunch (mine lubricated with a delectable Neck Oil) and if we were not just passing through on our holiday road trip, we would surely drop by again for more laughs, great food and a wonderful time. Highly recommended.

Might be a bit harsh as the place only had 2 staff on floor/Bar area the lady behind the bar was amazing and really friendly and the guy running food was polite if not a bit rushed off his feet sorting whole restaurant out. This place has so many different nooks and crannies it looked empty but there was quite a lot of people for one person to deal with. My main reason it scores low was the food. My gammon and eggs was actually ok but person I was with had fish cakes which came with a supposed lemon veloute which was the most underwhelming sauce I'd ever tried. I'm an ex chef so know a good sauce this was as far away from this as could be. No seasoning, no depth of flavour and limp in consistency. The fishcakes looked like they had been chucked in a dirty deep fat fryer and were too crunchy. And the poached egg looked as deflated as we were eating this dish.Absolutely no finesse. The red lion is trying to be a gastropub but with food like that costing nearly £16 it was a huge let down. Wetherspoons could do food almost as good and it would be half the price and a pint would cost £3 rather than £6. The place looks lovely and huge amount of space and garden. The staff were 85% good. Food was just annoyingly plain and without skill. Hire a new chef is my advice. I'm happy to come and show chef how to a make a lemon veloute which is a entry level skill sauce!! I did give it a 2nd chance walked in on a quiet Monday. Person behind the bar took an age to make a pot of tea for a customer past me twice and didn't acknowledge me which is a must in any hospitality venue. Then got charged £3.35 for a half of Camden Hells. If you want to charge ridiculously over inflated prices you also need to be the best which on two occasions you have fallen well below what I would a basic service. I won't come here again and if you're reading this I urge you to go somewhere else. Oxford has a lot better to offer than this place. It's not a gastro pub by any stretch of the imagination.

We went for a day out in Oxford and booked through The Fork to not have to think about looking. We arrived 8 mins earlier and the table wasnāt ready (no big deal as we were early) but the rest of the pub was empty. The lady that was serving the ārestaurant ā section greeted us nicely and promptly took our drinks and food order. They were out of most of the drinks we ordered (understandably as itās been very hot for the past few days) but we managed to order something and she was accommodating to my mumās odd request. The drinks took a while and my mum had to ask again. The starter came out quickly and it was your standard baked camembert so no complains there, however we finished and had to wait a fair amount as our server wasnāt there, she came back and took payment for the other two tables and didnāt pay much attention to is. Our started was removed as the mains arrived. The mains (Beef Sunday Roast) looked like theyāve been sitting on the pass under the light for a while. The meat was overcooked and super dry as were the yorkshire puddings, I asked for more gravy but it never arrived. The potatoes seemed completely boiled and slightly roasted (as opposed to the normal opposite) and with the three key elements so dry and disappointing, we didnāt venture the rest of the vegetables. We asked for the bill leaving most of the food (although my mum forced herself to the beef and she did enjoy the yorkshire pudding). The bill came without service charge, when I asked about it the answer was āit wasnāt her logging and otherwise itād go to another serverā which was one of the oddest things Iāve ever heard. We didnāt have any cash so we apologised for not being able to leave any tips. Overall it was not a good experience, it was one of the worse Sunday Roast Iāve had and was sad my mum couldnāt taste a proper one. Needless to say we wonāt be recommending them.

Weāve had a really bad experience with my family at this restaurant. First of all, the waiters were undertrained. I didnāt get a spoon for my soup, they left all the dirty dishes on the table, they put anything we ordered on the side of the table and most of them generally just didnāt seem to care about their jobs. When we ordered our main courses, 3 out of the 6 of us ordered beef. After the starters, they said that they were out of beef, so we needed to order something else. We ordered some new dishes with chicken, but after another 10-15 minutes, they said that they were out of chicken too. At this point, at the table next to us (who arrived and ordered after us), the guests received four beef dishes, the same kind we wanted to order earlier. As a foreigner, I would like to assume that it had nothing to do with the fact that they were locals, and we were not, but I am not convinced. The foods that they actually had in stock were not really good either; the soup tasted like water, the bread was burned, and the fish and chips were really oily. The cocktails were okay. We will probably visit Oxford in the future, but we wonāt even consider going back to this place again.

To give this place one star is being nice! Arrived and asked if they were still serving food with which the replied yes for another hour and handed us menus. I ordered food and drinks for the table, only two drinks arrived⦠they failed to bring us the other two and the food. 30 minutes after ordering the food hadnāt arrived so I asked where it was only to be told the kitchen closed 15 minutes ago without making our order. So correct me if Iām wrong, why was our order taken if the kitchen was closing and secondly why did I have to ask where our non existent food was? It took the manager 15 minutes to deal with us and that was after I walked up to the bar to him. He did not come to our table and apologise, he almost made out it was my fault. The place was not busy and it was filthy, glasses everywhere. Will not be going back and will not recommend , these guys need a serious amount of hospitality training and at least customer service training. If this person is a manager, there must be very low requirements to be a manager as they were definitely not fit for purpose.
