Worst service I have had in England.
I took my family here for dinner this evening, and ordered dinner and drinks. After dinner, the children wanted pudding, so at 7:30pm, I queued to order simple brownies and ice cream. The order on the receipt was 7:45. At 8:10 I went back to the bar to ask where their ice cream was, and was told 'your children are not allowed in here past 8pm', at which I said, 'that's fine, but we've been waiting for their ice cream for 25 minutes'.
I was dealing with Peter, the guy behind the bar, and he was great. He was running between the kitchen and myself trying to sort out the problem, and get my kids their ice cream. All I wanted was to take them home and get them to bed.
While I was waiting at the bar for Peter to come back from the kitchen (for another 15 minutes), I was approached by a very rude woman who said 'your children are not allowed in here past 8pm'.
At which I sighed and said 'yes I know this, but your staff messed up our order of ice cream, I don't want to be here, and one of your staff is trying to sort this out...so really I don't need this right now.'
The little rude woman (who turns out to be the manager, named Shaniqua or something to that effect), got aggressive, and told me not to talk to her like that (twice), and then said I was no longer to be served at the bar, and stomped off.
Bottom line is that this is not a family friendly establishment. The management does not have a clue as to how to properly manage, which is evident by the lack of service, and communication with the kitchen. If it were not for her staff (Peter in particular), this review would have been much much worse. The food is okay, the price is cheap, but the service lacks, but that is due to management.
Recommendation for Wetherspoons HQ - fire Shaniqua and give Peter the management job, he understands how to deal with customers. And looking at the other reviews here, it sounds like I am not...
Read moreLearned over my time in the UK that Wetherspoons is a pub company that operates a good number of restaurants around the UK. They all seem to have different names and variable styles, but the menus are similar and they all pride themselves on being reasonably priced. Menus are accessible and should have something most everyone will tolerate.
I found their promise of low price food and drink to be a true one; I ate here so many times just trying to save money while abroad, lol. They had a deal for an absolutely enormous hot dog, chips, peas, and a single mixed drink for under 10 pounds. I'm sure that's changed since 2015, but I'd be willing to bet the prices are still reasonable since that's sort of their schtick.
The food is pretty good for what you pay for (manage your expectations, folks). The service, especially at the bar, can be a little hit or miss. But the building is a comfy two story and there's always friendly, sometimes rowdy folks about. They often open their windows on summer nights and it's nice to hear laughter and song spilling out into...

Went in for breakfast with my sister. Sticky tables. Unclean bar, obviously not been wiped down from the night before. Dirty shot glass in the condiments box. Seating all stain, it was so disgusting.
Young guy on the till was new, no problems everyone has to learn.
Porridge was so thick, you could actually stand you spoon up in it. However once we'd sent it back to be further cooked and we added hot milk ourselves from the machine, it was actually nice!
We asked for toated bread for our bacon butty and as the new guy wasn't sure, I asked someone who was supervising, they assured me it was. It came out pale and barley warm, we asked for it to be toasted more. It came back out toasted more but the bacon was cold. We just eat it, by this time we'd lost the will to live.
Come on Mr. Martin what's going on? Are you selling Oxford Four Candles, is that why it looks in such a state of disrepair!
AVOID THIS...
