Let me start my review by saying I do get its a very old building... But it's just so inaccessible! For any kind of disability it's just not accessible. The staff weren't great. I'm not sure if they are volunteers? But they didn't even say hello as we entered simply held up on hand, did the clicker to show how many people were there...that was it!! Not one member of staff voluntarily spoke to us?! Weird? My daughter had been dying to see the tunnel I'd recalled from childhood.. So did other people. Apparently it's a special booked tour only. Weds only, must be booked in advance. OK then. No tunnel for us. The little gift shop was tacky and awful. Way too little historical gifts or nicknacs. If I wanted tat I'd go to the fair! The view is pretty cool. It does seem to be a health and safety hazard pretty much every few steps at the top of the castle. One room inside seems to be a wedding venue advert. The guy doing some kind of talk while dressed up needs autism training. So..if you are there aren't disabled, don't have autistic kids and haven't got anything else to do then pop in for 15 mins. But don't plan a day's visit unless you've pre booked the tour.... Although I have no clue how...

Read moreWell maintained and presented location. Interesting history with will presented facts & information. Not a large castle and it won't take you long to go around the whole place. Well worth a visit off you're in the area and interested in the history of Portsmouth. Has a nice cafe/bar with great views over the entrance to Portsmouth harbour and the Isle of Wight (providing the weather is good). Best of all, it's free entry. So even if you go in, only spend a few minutes within place and learn one small fact, it's great value for money. Staff are helpful and friendly. You can also hire the location for certain events. Allow 30 mins to an hour to see absolutely everything. Whilst only a relatively small 'castle', it's design impacted on other castles built after it and it has close ties with the...
