A Hidden Gem of Peace and Beauty – Southsea Rock Garden

This may be the first time I write a review for a garden, but Southsea Rock Garden truly deserves it.

Though small in size, this garden feels like a piece of heaven tucked away by the sea. It’s the perfect spot to pause, relax, and reflect—whether you’re meditating, reading, or simply taking in the quiet beauty around you.

What makes it truly special is its clever design: even with the strong coastal winds just outside, the garden offers a calm, sheltered space where you can still enjoy the fresh sea air. The variety of plants, trees, and bushes are arranged in a way that feels both natural and artistic. At the heart of the garden lies a charming little pond, home to small fish and a gentle fountain that adds to the sense of tranquility.

If you’re ever in the Southsea area of Portsmouth, don’t miss this spot. It’s a peaceful retreat that offers something rare—a moment...

My children love this place ⭐🌟 It's great for spotting insects and birds in the spring and summer months! A great picnic spot and brilliant for hide and seek any other time! However, my son tends to clear the waterfall every time we visit due to a build up of pond weed ... he loves to do this! A lot of plants look almost dead. The volunteer gardeners do a fantastic job and we often see them working hard, but to be honest I think it requires gardeners to be there a lot longer than the volunteers can stretch to and I'm surprised that there aren't any permanent gardeners anymore, it's a shame! There is more rubbish than I'd like scattered amongst the shrubbery and drug users tend to loiter in this area, which is a real shame! Overall, my children love the thought of clearing the waterfall, playing hide and seek and finding a picnic spot. I don't like the thought of losing them in the game of hide and seek or...

Used to love going here so peaceful and nice to look round, but since Portsmouth city council gardeners took over the contract, it's been rubbish, they spend more time sitting around then actually doing work, they are rude! And think they own the place! Moan at you if u take pictures , it's like they don't like seeing people happy, especially one of the gardeners every time I been in there at different times, he sitting on his back side doing nothing, always on his phone. Don't know how the workers get away with it! Easy job! Don't know why people saying the gardens are amazing as back in the day they were, not now, just grass and rocks, more money needs putting in, more...

Loving the Garden's,it doesn't matter how many times that I go there, they seem to cheer me up,no end's, also I've got a new App, it's what I've been looking for, take a picture of a tree or the Bark, flowers weed's shurbs, anything that grows, well most thing's green lol, so if I'm feeling down i pop around there, headphones on and i will spend hours there, eveytime i go i seem to find a new plant maybe a weed, it's beautiful there,we are very lucky to have those gardens and the hard work they put in to make it look like a secret garden.
