This is our second trip here in the past 12 months. However I actually took pictures and notes this time to share!!
Parking at this time of year isn't badly priced £8.50 for 5 hours. We paid via Ringo on the app so that we could extend out if needed and there's plenty of parking the full length of the beach.
We went to the arcade at South parade pier which was good, had a free cash machine and a good selection of toys in the 2p machines. You also collected tickets on all machines which could be exchanged for toys or sweets at the counter too.
We had gyros at the Greek place which was just as good as the first time we had it. If you like Greek food you will love this!!! One wrap, a large mixed box and a portion of chicken meat plus 2 drinks cost £33 which for gyros we've found isn't badly priced at all.
We then walked along the beach past the D day memorials and onto the next load of arcades. These had a wider selection of toys and some great grabber machines which you could actually win on for 20p a go (my 8yo won a bubble tea toy after 2 tries!). Cons - Cash machines cost between £1.65 and £1.99 for withdrawal and you don't get tickets from their 2p machines.
We also had fresh donuts 6 for £6 and various other naughty treats before walking back along the beach.
It's really important to note that the beach by South Parade Pier is dog friendly between 30 Sept and 1st May however further round is not.
All arcades were dog friendly which is great and we sat inside to eat out gyros with the dog too.
All round another great day out and we...
Read moreAh, what an exquisite experience. Came for a boxing event—or at least, that’s what I think it was supposed to be. Because nothing says "prizefighting" like a Drum & Bass MC hijacking the night like we’re all suddenly at a 3 AM warehouse rave. Inspiring.
And let’s talk about the ambiance—because nothing screams class like £7 pints on a pier in Southsea, a place so glamorous it makes central London look like a bargain bin. But hey, why pay reasonable prices when you can fund some wannabe hedge fund guy’s third pomade jar? The crowd was a masterpiece—imagine every LinkedIn profile photo you’ve ever cringed at, but in the flesh: no socks, shiny shoes, and the collective charisma of a PowerPoint presentation.
Two whole stars, you ask? Generous. One star for the toilet, another for the floor—both of which were technically present, if you could fight your way through the line of people definitely not just waiting to pee. (Spoiler: They were doing lines. So subtle.)
In summary: If you’ve ever dreamed of paying West End prices for a seaside circus run by finance bros and soundtracked by a confused MC, congratulations. Your...
Read moreYes this is the pier which was set alight during the filming of 'Tommy'! Today it is home to a colourful funfair and fishing platform on the seaward side as well as the usual arcade and family restaurant. It has hosted boxing matches in the past too. The sea scours the piles under the buildings which can be quite un nerving in Winter storms but at low tide you can walk right under the structure. Sadly the sea to the West of the pier is not recommended for swimming, to the East there are swimming changing facilities for the year round hardy types and beach lifeguards with flagged areas in Summer. Dogs are allowed on the pier all yer but only in the off season on the beach. Toilets are on the pier for the restaurant users with public toilets in the nearby Canoe lake park. Children are the main enjoyers of this pier's funfair. Icecreams are available from a shop on the road entrance side by the zebra crossing. Parking for visitors is pay as you park except for time limited free parking to the Eastney beach side. The pier is an easy stroll along the seafront from Portsmouth station or by bus from all...
