Could not leave Dumfries without visiting this beautiful memorial to Scotland's best known poet. It was very easy to find, at the end of a long straight path leading from the entrance to the graveyard. You have to climb a couple of steps and peer through railings to see the memorial and gravestone of Robert Burns (he was moved here from a modest grave in 1815). His wife and two of his sons are buried alongside him. The mausoleum looked clean and well kept, and there's an information board close by. It's also worth taking the time to look at the old monumental gravestones in the churchyard. Some very prominent people are buried here including many of the poet's friends...

The highlight of the visit is the magnificent Robert Burns mausoleum, which contains his memorial and frieze sculpture.
