Terrible service, terrible food. We arrived at 5.15 and promptly ordered drinks. One pint glass was dirty, they apologised and provided a fresh one, fair enough. 25 minutes later we are waiting to order food. Eventually we get what we are assuming to be the manaher/owners attention and ask why it took so long for our order to be taken. His reply? We looked like we were all talking to eachother so he didn't want to disturb us? It's a restaurant! We fully expect to be ''disturbed' so we can order our food. Order starters and the mix tray of sauces/chutneys and poppadoms. Starters were actually ok, but the poppadoem were stale, as were all the bits on the mix tray. They had clearly been sitting out for a while. They provided us with fresh ones. This takes us to about 6pm, we've finished our starters and they've placed our plates in front of us for our mains. 6.35 we are STILL waiting. The young waitress arrived with our food, a chip dropped off the plate and she picked it up and put it back on the plate! My curry was cold so I sent it back, filly expecting them to bring a fresh properly heated one back out. Sent the mixed grill back as the chicken was overcooked. We are the naan as we were so hungry but it was undercooked and doughy. Manager/Owner came to table, we explained our complaints and away he went. He then came back to the table and said that we would pay for the just the drinks and apologised for the inconvenience. Next thing we know, no more food comes out and they just give us the bill! Absolutely shocking. Young waitress has a stinking attitude, told us it's because staff phoned in sick and stormed off. A Father and his two daughters, who rarely get to spend time together due to living miles apart, have now had to go home hungry and annoyed at what an awful experience we had in a restaurant we were so looking forward to going too. If I could give 0...
Read moreJust a heads up for people with food allergies, this restaurant claims to have a large vegan menue, and on the menue most dishes say "can be made vegan" or just "vegan" next to them anyway. However upon getting there and ordering I discovered that "vegan means something different here". The foods are not vegan but simply dairy free, meaning meats, eggs, honey, etc are still all contained within the "vegan" options. The food I eventually got tasted fine, and was fairly priced, however the girls at the table across from us happened to also be ordering vegan, and discovered halfway through that dairy had still been used after ordering dairy free, which considering we ordered the same foods left me feeling alittle uneasy about my own.
The service was really good, and we left a tip for the waitress as she was very friendly and welcoming, but overall the food-confusion was too worrying for me to go back despite being only a 5 minute walk away.
Fine if you have no food allergies but I really dont...
Read moreI really liked this place with it's interesting decor. Nice and simple red splashed walls but with random things going on like a wee Pinocchio above the bar. Also I liked the selection of Indian songs that sound ready to just burst the hell out into Knight Rider at any moment. Makes for an awesomely tense affair as you wait for that glorious moment that will never come.... That aside. The mixed platter for poppadoms came with a lime pickle that was so obtrusively bitter it just has to be some sort of entertainment for the staff :D. Though the spicy onion one was very nice and made up for it. I ordered a Biryani and it arrived well presented and was very nice. Lovely soft juicy meat and a tasty sauce. Easily the best food I found on my trip to Dumfries. It was perhaps a little pricey at £21 for 2 poppadoms, 3 dips, a Biryani and one beer. But I wouldn't quibble about returning especially if I had a group of people as I reckon it would be a good night out if you brought some...
