For all the times we have visited Stirling, we've never been to the jail, however, after finding out that they also have escape rooms, we had to book. There were five of us, my wife and I and the three boys. We began with the escape room. You are given one hour to solve the mystery and you are taken upstairs into a really old circular room. The member of staff stays in the room with you and they are there to provide a clue or two, should you require them. We were off to a slow start, then one of my sones cracked a code and we were off! After 40 minutes, we were done. It was good fun, but we were ready for the next challenge and there wasn't one. For the money (it's not cheap), I'd like to see us in more than one room, with maybe other challenges to solve. Don't get me wrong, if you've never done it before, do it once, it's a great laugh. Once the escape room had been completed, we headed to the tour of the jail. It was quite interesting and the guy doing the tour was great, he played multiple characters and he did it well. He interacted with the crowd and made us all laugh. My only disappointment with the tour was, you don't see a lot of the jail. I think there may be other businesses working within the same building, I'm not sure but I had hoped to see more of it. If they had set up some of the cells with either actors who tell the story of their incarceration or mannequins and a voice recording, it could have been better. If you visit, make sure you head upstairs to the outdoor walkway, and then further up again, to the viewpoint. You can see for miles. It is a good day out and I would recommend visiting once but there's not enough to bring you back a second time. Unfortunately, there is no cafe or place to eat, but there are toilets inside and free parking.

What an amazing experience. David took us on a journey through history around the jail filled with quirky characters, all in unique costumes and he changed character quickly and flawlessly to bring the jails history to life. Theres plenty of information on display and an audio guide to take you through each section of the jail. David stayed professional in character but still attentive to my well being due to me using a walking stick. The children were made to feel a part of the performance as well. It was such a good performance that our 5 year old believed David's performance to be real, after David gave us a chance to look around and returned later dressed as a new character. There was audio sound effects amongst David's performance and his tour was both comedic and informative and highly entertaining. The view from the top of the jail in the exercise yard is stunning. There's some perfect opportunities to capture a fun memory of your experience. We found a choice of fun t-shirts in the gift shop and at a pleasantly affordable price, so myself and my partner bought ourselves a fun souvenir and they sell an interesting guide book also. It was a great experience for the whole family. The staff were super friendly and helpful and a lady from the front desk helped us get a great family photo in front of a backdrop with funny inmate number boards. We loved it, thank you.

We decided to visit the jail as the reviews were great. We were staying at the Stirling Highland hotel which was just nearby so decided to pop in and book. The jail is an impressive building on approach. I booked a guided tour for 1045 am and an escape room for 2pm for our party of four. Our guide, Dave, played several roles in different costumes and was informative, knowledgeable and hilarious! His enthusiasm was infectious and undiminished after, I'm sure, giving many tours every day. The displays and audio guides were so interesting. The jail itself was in great condition, (better than many buildings of today.) Our first escape room was fantastic. The story and puzzles were ingenious and Jo, our dungeon master, was on hand to assist with hints and tips. We thoroughly enjoyed our adventure and managed to escape in under 40 minutes. I can see why the reviews were so good; we had a great day out and would recommend this. There are other escape challenges and tours available. Next time we're in Stirling we'll definitely pay it another visit

An absolute great attraction!! Beginning with the welcoming from the staff upon entry and checking out, to the point excellent assistance and advice given at the conclusion. The interaction of the exhibit and staff “Phenomenal” Ms Allie (I think) made it engaging, fun, and factual throughout the entire experience. Well Done!!! Great for any age! Location is setup up to provide assistance in moving g thru the tour for anyone!!! An absolute thrill to be part of the history and experience of a Victorian jail!!! One small observation would have LOVED to been granted access to an “untouched or propped” cell. Albeit one does visit the “real cells” on the first floor, to have walked into a “untouched” natural cell on another floor would make it the “cats meow”. All said “TOTALLY” worth your time and money! It’s not rushed, over dramatized, and pretty darn cool tour” 2 thumbs up!! You get to actually feel the “cold, dreary, and authentic” climate within the place. Very cool.

Great afternoon out! The staff were so, so friendly & I loved the free app with audio segments for us to listen to as we went round! Matthew, who took us for the first part of the tour & performance, was just outstanding! He had to switch in to several different characters with just the placement of a hat or the buttoning of a shirt & he really made the experience! They had sanitary towels, etc in the toilets too which is such a small detail to point to here but it was just further proof that they really thought about their guests. There was signs throughout making sure displays were available in multiple languages & there were certainly members of staff who could speak multiple languages too - which is just amazing for making that experience all the more accessible. The views from the top were gorgeous too. We were staying in Edinburgh & drove over to Stirling for it but we clearly need to stay in Stirling sometime soon to explore this beautiful place!

Great evening out! Educational, fun, entertaining! The acting is great and we'll rehearsed. I recommend booking a slot around 45mins before sunset it gives the absolute best views when going to the top observation areas. There is parking in the actual castle for customers to the tour but it shut at 5pm in summer and 6pm during Halloween activities. Sunday is free on street parking right outside the jail. It's a short walk into town where there are many places to eat after. If you want to see more of sterling there are some more lovely views just up the hill from the castle jail where you can walk through the stunning cemetary with an amazing view. Great for kids of most ages, a tiny bit jumpy at one point but just due to loud noises. No deliberate scaring and nothing jumping out at you. Would most DEFINITELY go again and will take family and friends that come to visit Scotland is it's a spectacular view!
