Booked a table here for an evening meal during our weekend in Stirling celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and we could not have made a better choice. We were seated in the upstairs dining room- which I suspect was a little quieter than the ground floor bar/lounge area - and it was perfect. The food was absolutely lush...we both chose the Chicken with Haggis in Drambuie Sauce and it was mouthwateringly wonderful. We followed this with lovely desserts... the Chocolate Orange Cake with Icecream was to die for so our compliments to the chef for that particular creation! The staff were brilliant throughout, friendly, courteous and very obliging. We made a little funny face on the back of a spoon as a Thank You with a very well deserved tip....I think it made them smile 😊 I would absolutely 100% recommend the Portcullis. Our visit rounded off our own celebration perfectly.

Fantastic food in a cosy setting, the portions are generous too. On this occasion I had their homemade cream of tomato soup which was sensational! Then my girlfriend had a cauliflower cheese bake from the special menu which had broccoli, ham and chicken inside with mashed potato on top. I stole a mouthful and it was very tasty! My main dish was also from the specials board, flash fried sirloin strips coated in hoi sin sauce, served on a bed of rice and broccoli, again delicious. Both dishes came with a generous side salad and the bake also came with a basket of fries. This came to £28. I have had steaks here on many occasion and is 100% the best steak in Stirling City centre in my own opinion. If you're going to dine here, please call ahead to book a table as it isn't a big place and I've seen plenty people being turned away.

Another gem of a find. I was on a shoot for Jewson and a lovely lady who worked there asked her friend who lives in Stirling for some local food recommendations. This was one of them. I was not disappointed! My friend and I sat by a roaring real fire, had a couple of drinks and some top notch grub! I had the Highland Chicken which was delicious! Not for those who don’t like haggis though! Haha! It’s in a stunning location right by the castle with fantastic views over Stirling and the Wallace Monument. Again, I wish we weren’t staying in a Premier Inn as we definitely would’ve stayed here. The rooms looked great and a fair price too. The staff were bloody lovely and we just had a great evening which topped off our road trip to Scotland. I wanted to stay!

Managed to get a room at this unique hotel in Stirling. It used to be a school for the wealthy kids, including the infant King James VI. I chose it purely because of the location and I am so glad I did! Its an up hill walk from the centre of town but its right next/in front of the castle itself - which was the main reason for my visit to Stirling. ||Check in: I was too early and my room wasn't ready, but I was greeted by Lyn who was very friendly and helpful. She said that my room would be ready by 12 and that my suitcase would be taken up there. So off I went to the castle...Check in on return again by Lyn who took me up to the room and around the hotel. |Room: This is a unique hotel in an old building. Room was large with all facilities. Ensuite was large also. Large queen sized bed which was amazingly comfortable and I had a great nights (x2) sleep. |Hotel: Unique hotel in a very old building, so there is no lift. Restaurant/bar on ground floor which serves really good food at reasonable prices. Great staff too. |Day 1 evening: I had the lasagne which was amazing! (one of the best I've ever had).|Day 2 evening (I was too tired to go anywhere else): Haddock with chips/salad. |Guest restaurant/breakfast room on 1st floor.|Guest accommodation on second floor. |Some great views of the castle. |Check out: Easy. Lyn called me a taxi after breakfast and I left the key with her. ||Overall a wonderful stay in such a historical building. Will definitely stay here again if I get back...

Well, location, location, location. The hotel is right at the gates of Sterling Castle. Which makes it quiet a convenient hotel to stay in. You can walk to the holy rude Church, and cemetery. The hike from the train station is quite a steep one. I wanted to stay in a room above a pub, which is what this is. Not your typical Scottish Pub. I expected Celtic music and got 80s pop. Everything in the hotel was sticky the tables in the restaurant the tables in the room the tables at breakfast. Food was so so and the coffee was atrocious,as thick as pudding, literally. 1780s building, which made it very attractive, but the room very tiny. The bed was comfortable enough but only a full size, which is difficult for two people to sleep in. The staff was very friendly and considerate, they actually gave me a key to the door of the hotel, in case I stayed out too late. No elevator.. so climbing the two flights of stairs to the third floor was a bit of a hump. As in most Scottish hotels, no air conditioning but it's not that hot in Scotland. All in all, except for the...
