Wilfred Owen, 1893 - 1918 Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge, Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs And towards our distant rest began to trudge. Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.
Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time; But someone still was yelling out and stumbling And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime... Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

There is a bandstand which gives it a bit of a period feel, the functional mini/model railway which is great fun for both adult and kids time and time again. There are two play parks, one for the bigger kids and one for the younger kids. A boating pond is there also with various different boats to use. There is often a bouncy castle on the go to.
There is also a very decent cafe serving all the things you would expect, toasted sandwiches, Pannini, baguettes, soup, cakes. This is connected to the bowling club which is in the park grounds too.
Another nice feature of the park which I think is loved by all is the winding burn, which is crossed by two bridges and begins with a scenic waterfall.
It has one various awards of the years which is no suprise.
It's a must if you're in...
