While this museum has much to show, it is what it doesn't show that I find very worrying. Mull museum seems to be offering a 'cleaned up' view of Scottish history by ignoring two of the most seismic events in Mull (and Scottish) History. The Jacobite uprisings culminating in the battle of Culloden and the Highland clearances. Furthermore, it offers no information on how the Gaelic language and culture was forcibly repressed and wiped out in most areas (especially in the case of the Gaelic language) including Mull of course. I was told by a member of staff that the museum did not cover these events to avoid upsetting English tourists and that the Highland clearances were nothing more than a 'helping hand'! The geology section has excellent rock specimens that you can handle and find the location of on the many maps. Local history and WW2 exhibits provided good information about what was happening here in the past. The two members of staff that I spoke to to were really well informed and highly approachable.
Really enjoyed the visit; amazingly there was no entrance charge, just a box for voluntary...
