..... Those who are enthusiastic about fish and have also spent some time in Scotland before will be happy to remember the fish dishes in the specialized restaurants when they choose a suitable restaurant. It probably has to do with the geographical location, within which the best fishing grounds are virtually on the doorstep and thus both from the water quality and the short distance between fisherman and restaurant, this high quality can be processed in the various cuisines. This is also true for Cafe Fish, which was also voted "UK Fish Restaurant of the Year (The Good Food Guide)" in a 2012 Gastro Guide and since then has been able to receive good follow-up ratings. The menu is not only specialized in fish, but also offers guests the best oysters, mussels, crabs and, depending on the season, also a lobster. The location of the restaurant in connection with the menu can also be described as exposed. Situated directly at the port, one almost has the fantasy that the cutter will drive to the restaurant to deliver the catch there. This is of course a bit exaggerated, but it could be moored at the nearby quay wall. The premises do not necessarily meet the expectations that the described fish cuisine could possibly have. The simple wooden tables and chairs can be described as rustic in charm. Meanwhile, the view from the upper floor over the bay of Tobermory is a very beautiful one and can even be described as gigantic in the outdoor seats, weather permitting. We also like the motto on the homepage very much: "The only thing that is sometimes frozen is our fishermen and by no means the fish" - this freely translated and finally we wish all those who want to follow our recommendation bon appétit! Read moreOK, the food is stellar. Hummus with flatbread, garlic butter langoustines, crispy sea bream with citrus relish, monkfish with pea, crab & squid ink risotto - all superb. Weird confused greeting led to uncertainty over our long-booked table. Then quickly resolved to an excellent table in a corner window overlooking the harbour. Then it seemed to be a problem that we wanted to order an appetizer with our aperitifs. And then suddenly it wasn't. A really unsettling experience and all due to one member of staff who seemed to be having a bad day. Fortunately things smoothed out after this and the food was sublime. Suggestion to venue: the table next to ours was by the loo door. People on it initially demanded a move ASAP. Next couple demanded a better table next time they came. Just rotate it parallel to the window table, then one person doesn't have a view of the toilet door all evening. It would have ruined our evening if we'd been seated there. Oh, and a star docked for cash only. Really? £120 bill for two people and they don't take cards in 2023. Yes cards take 2 or 3% but adding this to your prices isn't going to affect anyone with the means to dine here. Some negatives, but you really should eat here if you're in Tobermory and you...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible. This has made me re-evaluate my 5 star rating! We shared 2 seafood gratins (daily special) and a super salad and the food was exceptional: a delicious range of seafood in a creamy, tomatoey sauce with grilled gratin cheese on top. You could tell the seafood was straight out of the sea, and the sauce was heaven - we ordered extra bread just to soak it all up. The cheese gratin crust was light and perfectly complemented the fishy taste. The super salad was fresh and its homemade falafel was a delight, with extra chilli in. The desserts were incredible as well, I had a 'naughty' affogato, which included a shot of Cafe Patron (tequila-basd coffee liqueur), and another in our party had the sundae, which was packed full of sweet treats such as ice cream, cookies, raspberry coulis and more.
The prices here are a little more than one would expect on a small island, but absolutely worth it for such high quality fish dishes. To top it off, the top floor has a lovely balcony overlooking the Tobermory harbour if the weather permits...
