My partner and I decided to try Spice of Mull this evening, a change from all of the delicious local cuisine we've had over the past few days whilst on our holiday.
We walked in without a reservation and were seated promptly and our orders were taken accordingly (or not). Whilst waiting for our food to arrive we noticed the table cloth was dirty and this led to noticing there was food (old curry) splatted on the wall next to our table, albeit, we looked past this and decided to pursue our order. The food was served without delay, however, they had given me chicken instead of lamb (no big deal, or was it?) - I proceeded to notify the waiter, who, very abruptly said this can't be possible and that I did order chicken. My partner and I both calmly said we think there's been a mistake, it was lamb that I ordered; the waiter persisted to say we were wrong. At this point I calmly said, ‘so, you don't ever make mistakes?’, for which, he paused for a while. He then asked what I would like to be done about it - at first I requested for a replacement with the lamb curry I originally ordered. His response, ‘this would be a waste’, so, I sympathised and said that's a fair point (I don't like waste) and said ‘how about a discount for the inconvenience?’, he instantly said no and grabbed the curry from the table at which point his colleague stepped in and rectified the situation accordingly with a discount whilst he walked away laughing and shaking his head.
Moreover, I ordered a tap water and yet they insisted on giving me bottled water!? Why would I not drink tap water in a place like Scotland where it's amazing!? The plates were chipped and didn't look clean and Covid-19 measures were non-existent! Lastly, having been to India and tried Indian food and eaten at various Indian restaurants across the UK, the food was average at best.
Maybe you will have a better experience, however, don't expect to be blown away and be sure to observe the...
Read moreNine of us on a day visit to Mull had a very disappointing lunch. The one waiter was rude and refused at the end of the meal to provide a receipt giving several barely comprehensible excuses as to why he couldn’t. Despite advertising to the contrary only Indian/Bangladeshi food was available ....”.the Chinese chef wasn’t in “ he said. Two of the original group who wanted to order Chinese food said that they didn’t like Indian food to which the waiter shouted “if you don’t like Indian get out!”. Those two guests left and went elsewhere angry with the waiters rudeness. As for the food it suffered from an excessive use of red and yellow colour additives and the food was bland. When asked about the non arrival of chapattis the waiter said “ chappatis not working” and laughed. We never did get them and not being given a receipt when requested for one I don’t know what we were charged for. Both the ladies and gents toilets were smelly, unclean and grubby.' I have awarded just one star because I a unable to award 0. My advice, find somewhere...
Read moreGood food but that's it. So you in the restaurant you have lots of Chinese decor and in the menu you have Indian, Chinese and Thai food meals, but they only serve Indian... Anyway, we had two mains (£12 each), one portion of rice (£4), one naan (£4), Cobra beer and lemonade, and it came up to £42! How? Because they charged us for the (two) poppadoms with four sauces - super odd as in any other Indian restaurant we went to, they were always on house. You couldn't argue about it, because the receipt is hand written and you can't read anything at all from it. Also, they have a CARPET in a toilet which is the same carpet that is all over the restaurant, very dirty and that's very gross.
In conclusion, food was very good, service was ok but the place itself it's quite dirty and it very overpriced (in Bellachroy Hotel - oldest Inn on Mull, for a cider, 2 x gin+tonic, starter, 2 x mains and 2 x dessert we...
