Read moreWayfarers is the kind of place that you come upon when first visiting a new town that makes you do those strange little 'wow' noises in the back of your throat, and when you get back home, you want to phone all your friends and tell them about the amazing discovery you made while on holiday.
Unless you live near it, of course. Although, even when it has become commonplace and ordinary, there is still much to enjoy in the arcade. Especially in wintertime around Christmas, it's a true joy just to windowshop the carved mahogany frames of the shops, and take in the festive atmosphere.
From my man's perspective, it's lovely to have MAN shops to look in (grunt,grunt) - a truly excellent musical instrument shop - jewellery and barbers shop ( real razors that BITE!) among others.
The entertainment truly comes into its own if you stand on the corner of the entrance and keep a careful ear out for American accents. Watching open mouthed expressions is nearly as much fun as standing at the gates of the Magic Kingdom spotting 'first-timers'.

Read moreOnce the landmark arcade of Lord Street, now not even a shadow of itself. No incentive for small businesses to open there. The buck stops primarily with Sefton Council for that. It has been priced out, and more or less abandoned with nearly all shops closed. Annoyingly, much more could be done but it is not happening. The one saving Grace is the Pudding & Pie establishment at the end of the arcade, a great place to grab a bite and the reason I've given two stars as opposed to one. My barbers, 'Master Barbers', are situated at the entrance to the arcade, best barbers in town, luckily with the entrance situated on Lord Street.
