A wonderful walk around the Serpentine Park designed by Capability Brown in the 1750's. Paths leading away from the lake to maze and playareas. On the far side from the main entrance is the stage with it's back to the lake. Love walking past it with music playing drifting towards you on the air. Dappled wooded pathway with magnificent sculptures along the way. Including a mahoosive living willow dragon tunnel, a nest of equally mahoosive dragon eggs, giant mushrooms, metal fairy folk, mahoosive dandelion clocks, running deer, and tree sculptures of owls and otters, all wondrous to behold. The undertree planting schemes are a feast for the eyes in blues and whites. Half way round is a café with boat trip jetty. Unfortunately the boat has always been full when I have got there. As would be good to see the gardens from a different perspective. Large swathes of sun drenched wild meadow plantings, and a wee miniature train ride. And bird hides. At the other end of the lake is an amazing bronze statue of Perseus holding the decapitated head of Medusa by the 16th century artist Benvenuta Cellini ; one of the biggest bronzes in the UK. Behind which lay the Italian Garden with it's multiple fountains and it's trellis walk with a marble statue of Hygeia Goddess of health and hygiene. And the tall border plantings of...

Read moreThank goodness it's back open! Only one way around lake at the moment and none of the children's areas are open but it's still REALLY busy. Book in advance but you may still have to queue...moves...
