My husband, and I are very dissatisfied with the attention of Waterstones from Wakefield! We purchased this Games Room Chess & Checkers which was 75% reduced, and at first before opening we were very please to have it... But when we finally opened the game it was supposed to come with 12 black checkers, and 12 red ones but it just came with 24 red checkers... The thing is that we went to complain about it in order that they could refund us because of selling us something totally different of what the game describes... And instead helping us the staff were very rude, and didn't offer any type of solutions! Staff were asking inappropriate and private questions that had nothing to do with the issue raised! If the game was reduced at this price fair enough but despite their protestations no sticker was there upon purchase saying that the checkers were all the same colour, rather that we could play some of the game as the chess set was OK! Help was only offered when we mentioned about raising this matter on social media, the young 'lady' attending also tried to engage us in an argument and needed to be told by us the customers that they were the one speaking inappropriately and with a raised voice, we were advised that no manager was available just in Leeds who would be able to authorise a refund but that this would take time (time which we no longer had!) This was very strange as the attitude from the beginning was that no refund would be given! We were wondering if a manager would be able to respond to this, explain why staff were treating customers in this manner and more than...

The interior contrasts with the vast majority of the company's other branches by lacking its distinctive black bookcases and shelves. Instead, there is lots of wood veneer shelves to match the bare wooden floor, and a new font, which is nice. The upper floor, for which there is no lift available to, is furnished in the same pleasing manner.
The range of books is suitable, but they're still pricier than Amazon, even with your 3% back using their loyalty card. All in all, clean, but...
Read moreStaff friendly, although luckily I check bills as they hadn't discounted the buy 1 get 1 half price offer. Quickly rectified once I'd pointed it out though. Nice little shop although it really is a shame, and sadly I suppose the reason a lot of High Street stores are closing, as nearly all of the books I wanted were considerably cheaper at Amazon... Spend in Waterstones £23 for 3 paperbacks... Spend on Amazon £59.50 on 4 hardbacks, an annual and 3 paperbacks saving around £35 on Waterstones prices. I want to support physical stores but that's a lot of money extra, especially at this...
