Plenty of produce vendors with beautiful fruits and veggies at insanely inexpensive prices. The wife and I visit this flea market weekly for our non-meat needs. You will not find better prices anywhere!
To give you an idea;
I bought three smallish pineapples for one dollar! A bag of gorgeous, firm but fully ripened Roma tomatoes, about three (3) pounds for a dollar! About fifteen (15) yellow and red bell peppers for $3!
And most outrageous of all: a full carton of mangoes ripe enough to be enjoyed immediately. Cost? $1!!! The little crate contained 14 mangoes.
For the wheelchair crowd: All vendors and patrons conduct business on the parking field during weekdays. This makes for very easy wheeling about without the usual potholes and gravel accumulations. Yesterday I saw two or three self-propelled wheel chair persons moving about with ease and full independence. That was great!
This is an extraordinary place to visit regularly for food, used goods... everything from clothing to tools to new and old appliances to garden implements. And we always have so much fun trying our weak Spanish conversational studies on vendors.....lots of confusion, some hugs, and always a good feeling about being supportive of local business and our admiration for the Rio Grande Valley...
Read moreI had a really good time this morning, walking around the flea market spending quality time with Dad. The flea market was little to big for Dad to walk all the way around it so we only did halfway. Halfway meant; where the Taco stand is located at. We had some delicious tacos that I washed down with a Mango water, super refreshing. On the way out we stopped at a few vegetable stands, this is also so we don't carry the produce around while we are walking around the flea market. I was able to get great deals on produce and saved more than half of what I would have spent at the Grocery store. I also found a small strainer (I been needing one) and a steel sponge to scrub pots and pans, I spent like $10 dollars for everything. There is such an awesome variety of fruits and vegetables to choose from, at times I felt like I was in a Travel Channel video. Dad paid for the Tacos so I really came out on top. Honestly, the time spent with my Father was priceless and was worth more than words can say, and it made this trip to the Flea Market much...
Read moreOnly three stars because we only went through about a third of the market. This place is HUGE. It reminds me of a bazaar. A combination of a garage sale, flea market and a farmer's market in one place. We were mostly interested in the foods and plants. Prices are remarkable, and selection is vast. We didn't have an opportunity to sample food vendors; we were there on Sunday morning and left around 10:45 - most were just setting up. There are restrooms throughout the area. Some people were selling ice cold drinks from coolers along our walk through. Admission is .50/person.
Things to note if you are going, and going to buy things - wear comfortable clothes and waterproof walking footwear. Take a cart or wagon with you. Take small denominations of bills. I honestly don't know if I even saw a credit card being used, but I wouldn't feel comfortable using one throughout. There are larger items in the $50 range (lawn mowers, air conditioners, compressors, small motors, welders, shop tools), so be prepared to have...
