I just got off of a glacier!! How did this happen?!? Well I found myself in Alaska with no plans. I mean, I had plans, but they fell through. So I could either go home, or go big. And anyone who knows me can tell you I live by the motto “Go Big or Go Home!” Sometimes I do go home (I know my limits!) but this time, I needed to go big. Al and Adriana at Kenai Backcountry Adventures showed me the very best time and we went so big!! I wish I had the words to describe the feeling in my heart right now. We hiked up into the mountains to find Exit Glacier. We strapped on our crampons. And before we knew it we were hiking up the glacier! It’s not for everyone but jiminy Christmas did I feel amazing on top of that ice. Adriana and Al kept us safe with gentle reminders about how not to slip or fall or drop anything. We got to get roped up and walk out onto the edge of a deep crevasse and look down! I could go on for days about how fantastic a day I just had. You do not want to miss this!! It was so worth it to have guides; they knew just were to go, told us the names of plants and any medicinal or dangerous qualities, found bear claw marks in a tree, pointed out the mountain goats on the side of the mountain, and so much more! Al was full of jokes and funny stories! Adriana was masterful with the ropes and ice ax. They were both so nimble on the ice, it was super inspiring to see. Our whole group was all smiles, all day. I can not recommend Keni Backcountry Adventures highly enough!!! It was about 7 miles or so round trip. I’m sure I’ll be sore tomorrow but right now I feel like a million bucks!!! Thank you thank you thank you, Al, Adriana, and everyone at KBA, it truly was a once in a lifetime trip!

Lochlan was 10/10 guide! Awesome hike up to the icefield; we got super lucky with weather and seeing a black bear within the first 15 minutes. Lochlan showed a solid understanding of the wildlife, plants, and hiking tips. Stunning surroundings with fewer people as you make your way up towards the icefield viewpoint.

We booked the glacier hike. From the moment I called to book and inquire about the trip they were fabulous. They picked us up from our hotel and drove us to the office where we started the tour. After the tour we were planning to go straight to the train and they stored our luggage for us while we went on the hike. There were only two other people on the tour with me and my husband, and we had three guides. The guides (Brandon, Tate, and Colin) were very knowledgeable, polite, friendly, and fun! We had an amazing time! They kept us on schedule, fed us a lunch, and always explained everything we were doing and why. They moved at the pace of the group’s capabilities and ensured everyone rested when needed it. The equipment provided was well maintained and they assisted us with gearing up. As a bonus, on this trip we saw a moose and three bears. One bear up on the hills and a momma and her cub much closer by. The guides were cautious during the animal encounter and explained how to handle the situation! We saw more bears on this tour than we did on the actual bear tour. Being on the mountain and on the glacier was such an amazing experience and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and we had so much fun! Will definitely use Kenai backcountry adventures for another tour and highly recommend them to all!

This may have been one of the best excursions we've ever taken - a wonderful experience all around! We signed up for the float plane and Bear viewing experience. Our float plane pilot Nate was excellent - he ensured a smooth ride full of amazing scenery. We took a different route back to see the glacier and we're floored by the natural beauty. Badger was just the best - he was engaging, friendly, lively, and knowledgeable... A pro's pro. He took us on a small motor boat and gave us an amazing aquatic tour of the lakes, bays, and forests. We learn so much from his explanations, and then, as an added treat, he took us around a few hidden places. We got to catch and bring home a fresh caught sockeye salmon (Badger knows where to find the salmon like no other... he would hook one within seconds every time he cast). He filleted the fish in front of us while explaining the process and all of the possible culinary preparations. After this, we went to see the bears. Just an amazing experience - we got so close and were able to just watch them in a mostly natural environment.

We also saw bears outside of the viewing area, along with cubs (riding their mom's back 😊), bald eagles, beaver dams, amazing local flowers, and some great waterfalls. There was plenty of time to do everything, and we did not feel rushed. We got to eat a nice lunch while viewing the bears and listening to Badger's stories.

We will never forget this amazing experience, and we have unbelievable photos to remember this day. I would highly recommend Badger, Nate, and this company (along with this excursion) and look forward to doing something like this again in the...

I tried to book an ice climbing guided trip online, and was directed to call their number. I called a few times throughout the day, and was sent straight to voicemail. I left a voicemail, and they texted me asking me how I could be assisted. I responded, and did not receive any follow up. Finally, I went in person, and the open sign was on, yet no one was around. Luckily, an employee was just leaving the area and saw me waiting outside and spoke to me and was very helpful. There were no trips available, which was a bummer, but I was just glad to finally speak to someone!

Overall, this business seems to be full of false promises. You shouldn’t advertise available trips if there aren’t any. Their calendar shows that every day is open for whatever trip you want, but that is straight up false advertising, especially if you’re a solo traveler (they’ll try and convince you to purchase a “ghost pass” aka pay the price of a second traveler to make it worth it for them I guess).

Edit to add in response to the business’ response: incredibly ironic how you can respond to my bad review within nearly 12 hours but could never get back to me when I was trying to pay you money.

Whether I experienced one of your excursions or not, I still had a negative interaction with your business, therefore I am reviewing that “experience”, and other solo travelers should be aware of the difficulties they may encounter when...
