While the IMAX screen is still the go-to for big visual movies - the seats in this theater are now, quite literally, a pain in the butt. Many are broken due to people apparently trying their hardest to make them recliners (they aren't btw). I really wish they'd refit the IMAX theater to have modern recliner seats. Yes, that would mean taking total potential ticket sales down because you're limiting capacity from larger seats, but let's be realistic: you aren't selling out shows enough to justify the hesitation. When was the last time an IMAX show legitimately sold out? How many more tickets would you sell on the daily if they were actual "luxury" seats and not 15+ year old standard chairs? Even the RPX got an upgrade. The seats that are currently in use are just way too narrow, hard, and low quality for the premiere theater in Alaska. Do better here, management, please.
Update 2025: It seems like I keep knocking stars off this review, and that kills me. I LOVE movie theaters. I've worked at both Regal and Cinemark in Anchorage. But the obvious lack of training and "give a f" on the front lines, including concessions management, has gotten to a ridiculous low. "It'll be 20 minutes for a hot dog..." half an hour before 7pm rush on a weekend should never happen. Consistently, I've waited over 10 minutes for pretzels. My most recent experience clocked in 24 minutes for a pretzel. TWENTY FOUR MINUTES. The person who rang me out didn't "put the order in" for the pretzel to the back, and literally avoided eye contact with me as I waited on the far side. They walked by me at least 4 times, I tried getting their attention verbally 4 times and was straight up ignored. Ridiculous. Eventually a manager walked by, and apparently was notified of the order. Because then they walked by me, no eye contact or acknowledgment, and threw something into the oven in the back (it's in view). They walk out with motz sticks (my husband had ordered motz sticks, received them and had already ate them while waiting) and sighed when I let them know, no.. Still waiting on a pretzel. When that was finally done, they come out again and hand me the pretzel. No apologies for the wait, or for the mixup. Just... Extended arms towards me. So I let them know, hey I've wait over 20 minutes for this. I am interrupted with the explanation that the order wasn't sent to the back. I go on saying "I'm not looking for an explanation here. This isn't an isolated thing, it's constantly anywhere from 10-15 minutes for a pretzel to be warmed up"..... Blank stare. No offers to comp the pretzel, or make it right in any way shape or form. There wasnt even a proactively apology or hint of empathy. "It's just not cool, ok?" and then finally a nod of acknowledgement and "Sorry".
DO BETTER. For goodness sake, I couldn't imagine how someone with less patience would have handed this situation.
Look at customers. If you notice them hanging around the pick up line after you've helped 4, 5, or 6 additional customer...ask them if they're still waiting on an item? Follow up with them. I know it's a thankless job most of the time, I don't expect the from line employees to plaster a smile on their faces for no good reason. But management needs to step up their game because their tone...
Read moreso yesterday May 28th we took 14 kids to see Home here. We went here because it is a very nice theater. That is not why the low rating.
Since we were taking so many kids and planned on them eating lunch there we called the night before and asked the manager for suggestions on how to make this process as easy as possible. We were told to call at least an hour before our arrival and give them the order to ensure the food would be ready and things would go smoothly.
We did as directed, we ordered 9 hotdogs, 1 hamburger, 4 boneless chicken wings and 1 chicken sandwich all with fries and 14 kid packs. I asked to have the drinks from the kids packs available for their lunches and we would then get the popcorn. The order was taken and we were told that it would be ready for us at approximately 1130 when we arrived.
We arrived at 1135 to find only 3 hotdogs (without fries) waiting, and then was told it would be about 5-10 more minutes, and that the hotdogs didn't come with fries, so we had to order 9 orders of fries. After waiting another 20 minutes and the movie starting and still no food we took the kids in and had them sit as we ran back and forth waiting on food and drinks. I was finally told that the reason the food wasn't ready was because the girl in the box office who took the order just told them about it 20 minutes before we arrived, (mind you it is now almost 30 minutes after we arrived and we still do not have our food so 50 mins), that is not my problem I gave them my name and phone number if there was a problem to call me and offered to prepay and was told I could pay when I arrived. It is now 1230 (movie started at 1145) and we still are waiting for all our food.
So we called them at 1030 it is now 1230 and we are still waiting, 2 hours for food, unbelievable. I had to ask to have the drinks poured and was told that those came with the kid packs, I had to remind them that we had talked about this on the phone and when I arrived and we asked to have the drinks with their lunches and it was agreed upon.
Now I have 14 kids in the movie 2 people running back and forth with food and popcorn, no trays, no offers to help us carry the stuff (14 drinks, 14 kid packs, and 11 more food items) until one manager finally came out and offered, another manager just gave excuses instead of trying to fix the problem.
We spent close to $300, 2 of us didn't get to see the movie or get reimbursed for it and kids had cold lunches. They actually said we won't charge you for the additional fries because of the "confusion"
Moral: DON'T EVER TAKE A GROUP OF KIDS THERE AND EXPECT FOOD OR SERVICE.
Movie theater is a great place, comfortable and clean. Food not so great, prices high, service well make your...
Read moreThey are severely understaffed. Many times ive missed previews or been almost late for the movie because they dont have enough staff and the lines are so long. The bathrooms always say out of order on the stalls. And there is noone monitoring the theatres so there are always people who havent paid for their tickets and have snuck in inthe theatres. I pay for my seat and pick it out specifically. Many times i have a picked a seat and it shows on the screen that noone else is in that movie. But when i go inside the theatre, there are people in there already with outside food. This has happened so many times and ive only been here a few weeks. Im tired of paying for my seat only to have to encounter these people who are not. There doesnt appear to be anyone managing this location. It seems like a wild west. Noone cleans up the popcorn and things in the lobby. Noone monitors of people really have tickets in the theatres and if people are being snuck in or just staying in and rotating aroubd for free movies. They hardly have hot fresh popcorn or hot nacho cheese. Its just anything goes. I respect the movies and its special to me. The experience is special. Supporting the local theatre and not streaming and bootlegging things is important to me. It doesnt seem like the employees or the management or ownership feel the same way. Also, its so confusing coming in with the person standing there after you walk in the main doors and are trying to get to the concessions. They should just have someone working at that first counter as well or get rid of the kiosks. I'm tired of people being in my seat that I paid for and being in the theatres without paying. I'm a loyal regal fan and member. But they are pushing it too far with how they are running this place. Anything goes here and that's not what...
