Left Click "Drops the ball" The Good: -One of the techs I dealt with was very nice helpful. He knows his stuff -Prices on their apple accessories seem to be a bit better than Holyoke Apple store
The Bad: -Lack of parking (in both locations) -Lack of Customer service. -Not very willing to help with DIY projects
The Ugly:
-I was lied to by 3 different employees
…(Phoned in ahead was at first told a charger was in stock, then not when I showed up, they only had 65 watts when I specifically said 85 watts. I stuck it out and went with next day shipping save me a trip to Apple store in Holyoke, then checked in next day, I went there in person and it was confirmed it arrived on that days shipment, came back about a hour later to pick up my laptop. I was given my old broken charger that I was told not to use before hand)
-I had to make a unnecessary trip to Northampton store. (Thorns Market Parking Nightmare, You know whats that like on a Friday evening those of you that been to NoHo know it)
…( o_0? Why overnight ship from Apple if they could have just sourced it from the other store? I would have just gone to the Northampton instead of the Amherst Thursday Morning and be on my way)
Work order was not fully fulfilled. I wanted my screen re-aligned. (Was done by a bad Apple genius tech 3 mo. back Top lid about 1to 2mm off to the left, not acceptable on a $2500+ Laptop but ok. I addressed this to Left Click)
I was hoping to have new high grade thermal paste put in to ease my heating issues but more important I wanted to know why my fans kept kicking in so much and my battery life was 60% of what it was 3 months ago.)
… (instead waited a day for my computer to be stress tested. I'm very capable of doing this on my own... I feel like 102*C is a bit on the way too hot side. Why did bring my computer in? Come to think of it none of the work I requested was done)
Did I say Costumer Service?
(Again with the exception to the last tech who was very knowledgeable with Macbook Pro's I felt I was rushed around, ping pong balled around)
-Lack of Sales support
( I expressed interest in another project (non mac related) was told look online. I would have gladly have paid to have my project look at professionally and I would have bought parts from a local business preferably. I don't like to buy from ebay unless I must. Most of that stuff is from Hong Kong and does not last. )
Lessons Learned:
-Go to the Apple Store if you are still covered under applecare (yes the genius bar has long lines sometimes, but It's worth the wait)
-Closer isn't better. I wasted more time going to a place that seemed closer. But by the time looking for parking and having to go to a satellite store and park there too to pick up darn charger. I would been better off keeping my genius appointment driving down to Holyoke Thursday and be back to building my webpages.
-Don't go to Left-click where they over promise and under deliver.
-Don't go there unless you like taking home a computer in the same exact condition you brought it in and be given back with defective pieces (previously told stop using)
*I hope the Owner of the store reads this and addresses these issues. I'm not being unreasonable at all, and I would like to say there are a few outstanding employees that work for him.. only reason I'm giving 2nd star... (Northampton store fellow was pretty good too).
I always like to give Local business a shot first and most definitely if it's in my hometown of Amherst. I had high hopes when I dropped my computer in. (I am very computer savvy, and I'm very particular who touches my MBP) I was just so disappointed when I returned to pick it up only to find that Left Click "Drops the Ball" as stated in my title. I had to rearrange some plans to accommodate the extra trip to Noho. Witness to what some saw with what I went through now several Mac users from Amherst, Leverett, Pelham, Deerfield, Conway and Greenfield now know and have been informed Left Click is not to be trusted. Least all is not bad, I did get the...
Read moreI'm glad I didn't write this review right after I left to place, it would've been a very different review. In store, the guys were incredibly helpful. Despite the fact that they carried on conversations with each other as if I weren't there while working with me on my computer, they were nice and helpful so I didn't mind. I went in and had an appointment to sit down with someone and clean up my computer - I was clear about what I wanted done. Essentially I wanted everything put on an external hard-drive that I had, then deleted from my computer so I could load back only what I needed. They helped me partition my hard-drive and back everything up - then they deleted only a few things. I wanted to get rid of all those hidden files which is why I wanted everything deleted then reinstalled, but they only deleted things by asking, "do you want to keep this, or this", etc. The guy told me that a lot of my hard-drive space was going to movies and TV shows in iTunes and that I could delete them all, then redownload the ones I actually wanted to keep from iTunes, so I let him do it. It wasn't until a week later when I got back from a trip and turned on my computer again that I found out they hadn't actually deleted any of the movies, they were all still there. And as for the TV shows, the files still showed up in iTunes, but iTunes "couldn't locate the file," but since it was still showing up, the iTunes store wouldn't let me redownload the files that I wanted. After chatting with Apple I was able to solve the problem, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. They also said they deleted several apps that I no longer needed, but alas, they are still somehow present on my computer. They downloaded two apps that they said would help clean up my computer but they didn't show me how to use them... So essentially, the only thing this guy did was partition my hard-drive, empty my trash can (already knew how to do), and do a full time-machine back-up, which is something I already knew how to do and had already done. And to top it all off, I had to pay $40 for this...
Read moreI brought my laptop into LeftClick - paid for their 'priority diagnostic service' for $149 - they told me I needed a new motherboard and it would be over $900 to fix the problem.
I then asked them to just back up my files and put in on a hard drive that I supplied, since I didn't have $900 at the time. The charge to back my files up onto a hard drive was another $149. So far, I was into them for $300.
A week after I dropped off the hard drive, I still hadn't heard from them. I even submitted a ticket on their website asking if they had any issues. No answer.
I finally show up to get my laptop and they tell me "Oh, it's getting ready to be refurbished". I asked why they would do that since I never asked for that and they said, "because it doesn't work...?"
I took the laptop back because I couldn't justify spending $1,200 ($900 for the mother board and $300 I already spent) to fix a $1,600 laptop. Not to mention the horrible communication and the refurbishment of my laptop that I never asked for. I guess it's a good thing I showed up that day to get it.
A week later I brought it to another place in Northampton - they tested it and then replaced the LCD panel for $300 and it fixed the problem completely. It's been working perfectly for weeks since then.
So either, 1.) The staff at LeftClick lack basic skills in diagnosing common computer problems, or 2.) they lied and tried to make an extra $800 off me. Either way, I will never bring my computers there again.
The place I brought it to in Northampton was Green Earth computers on Crafts Ave. Great communication,...
