I visited this sale on two separate occasions.
The first time I attempted to buy some plastic Disney cups. Mind you they weren't in the best condition, but they were in an okay condition where after some hard work they would have been usable. I had found them in the garage of the house, in a box I had to dig through. Upon check out, I was instantly told that these were 'toys' and I had to be told a price for them. I clearly indicated these were drinking cups and that the items were not toys. I was informed they were Disney and that the items required individual pricing because they were vintage. Ten minutes later, I was informed my two cups, and another coffee mug would total 65 dollars! What?! I asked where the price had come from, I was informed google. I left them there.
The second time I returned, I attempted to purchase some books for a niece of mine. I had found some books and I was told that they would need to be individually priced. I there observe a girl bringing up a current listing on ebay for not exactly the same books but was told for one box set of books it was 10 dollars. I had two box sets and a couple other singular books. Mind you, these are books that are still in print but printed back in the 90's... When I offered 15 for the whole lot (which I thought was rather generous for grade school children's books) I was then told that no, it was too low. Based on the previous experience I had with buying some dirty Disney cups and the ridiculous price that was being given then, I knew that the price of these books would certainly be well past 30.
Later on, I returned home and researched everything I was going to buy at this sale. I was not surprised that the items did not sell as high as they were wanting and were less than a third of the price of the total of all of them. I also went through some of the reviews of this company. One person had indicated that they jack the prices up and then in the last couple hours they split the prices.
This was a sale that I took notice that resellers/antique dealers were encouraged to show up at. However, as someone who does resell from time to time (my own items), these items were being sold at resale price. So where is the deal coming from? Those who do resale, another example of what kind of sale this was: someone was literally taking their time to individually price beanie babies... beanie babies. O_o
Probably one of the most bizarre sale experiences I've had. So if you use them, beware of how they mark your items up. If you are a patron, beware of...
Read moreOn this bright sunny day returning from a dentist appointment, I was initially excited to visit one of your Ann Arbor based estate sales (off Dixboro Rd) today. However, I was a bit disappointed to experience less than favorable service as a shopper. One employee was super helpful and personable and she welcomed me in just before 4pm, informed me that "everything was 50% off" and advised me to look around. Another employee gave me completely different treatment. (An African American woman - I specify this way because I failed to get her name; I am African American & am not saying this was a racial event - just want to identify her) this second employee was curt and very rude to me as I approached the check out table with a small set of desert dishes at about 4:10pm. When I asked how much the stack of small bowls was - the woman - who at that point was standing inches in my face said "We closed!" I asked, "You're closed?" she rudely repeated, "yes we closed at 4pm and we are just cleaning up now." I indicated that a few minutes before the other employee welcomed me to shop - she said "no we're closed". I said "ok" and I placed the set of dishes on the checkout table and left. I had planned to visit another Such a Find sale scheduled for tomorrow in Ann Arbor, but decided I'll spend my money elsewhere. I don't pay to be disrespected. Sincerely, Dr....
Read moreI remember going to these estate sale 4 years ago, finding fun treasures (furnitures, kitchen and houseware) that are reasonably priced.
over the last year or two, the sales have become rather ridiculous- in addition to the company passing out numbers for lineup, early birds have started a pre-line up numbering system: essentially, there is no way to get an item you really want unless you camp overnight at the site or get there at the crack of the dawn.
Pricing of the items have gotten to be ridiculous- 3 rolls of Kirkland (aka Cosco) toilette paper (not 3 pack) for $2, (Target sells 24 rolls for 3 bucks); used grocery shopping bag with worn down handles for $2. My husband and I were looking for a small round table for our condo, and they had a used/scratched 30 inch Hermann Miller office table for $300. We are not collectors, and we are simply looking for a sturdy long lasting table that fits our needs. Their reply was "if you don't take the offer, we will simply take it to our next sale". Essentially, such-a-find is a moving garage sale from one place to another, selling things to folks looking for impulse buys. Their only concerns are profits, and not moving items to people who actually would need, appreciate or take care of the items.
Would be best for the owners to put on their own sales and they may...
