Before this incident I am about to share I tried the food at Ricewood and it was not good to me. The flavor was off, the service was rude and the pop station was a mess.. Then when I heard about this I decided to share. The brothers who own this restaurant chain treated our youngest so badly, it reminds me of a racist treatment we received when tried to move into a house in Ypsilanti. There was no reason for Ms.St Louis to say she would rather have a White Family rent her house. She didnt know us. And as a result she missed out knowing a wonderful upstanding, loving and kind family.
No one trying to rebuild their lives should be treated the way the these brothers treated our daughter. They hired her and after finding she had another job (because resturants pay so little and A2 is so expensive you have to have 1 or 2 or even 3 jobs just to live) they insisted that she quit her other restaurant job so she could only work with them. They mislead her to believe she would have a stable opportunitu at their restaurant Then after two weeks they fired her without a explanation. Any normal person this would have broken. But our daughter picked herself up and swallowed her pride and asked for her old job back. By Gods grace she was able to return to the job. But she believed in these brothers, enough that she trusted they had her best interest in mind when they insisted she quit the other job. Now I know employers can let you go for no reason at all but these brothers ask more of our daughter than they should have. They should have considered that they were letting her go after having asked her to quit her other job. Turns out they went to school with our middle daughter. What I know is we will never eat at Ricewood, nor will I advise my 25000 review readers to eat there as well. If the brothers at Ricewood can do that dirty of thing to a person who is trying hard to build their life up they need to know what it means to struggle. They will regret they did this to our daughter as the saying goes the same people you step on climbing the latter to success are the same people who will pass you as you are falling into failure. I predict that with this kind of treatment to employees and customers they wont be around much longer....
Read moreFrom a person who truly loves and appreciates good food! When it comes to barbecue!!! These guys have some of the best barbecue I've ever had in my life! All of the meat on the menu is always juicy, tender and full of flavor! The smoke ring on the brisket is always perfect and it falls apart with a little bit of a tug. (I would say you probably don't need teeth to eat it because it's so tender) it literally melts when you bite into it. The ribs are the same way! With it barely needing a tug or bite to get it off the bone. Smoked to perfection! But you can't forget about the pulled pork either! The consistency of it isn't too stringy or mushy and it has nice chunks in it that makes a good hearty sandwich. Now when you pair those with the rice! It's a whole nother experience that is amazing. Gabe and Mike are always welcoming and make you feel like a regular even if it's your first time there. I live about 45 minutes away and I'm happy to make the drive to get their food! Get there early so you can get your choice of meat because they usually sell out quick. Great people! Great food! I can't get enough of Ricewood! Warning: The food might change your life because other barbeque might not...
Read moreThis location is inside another restaurant (YORK)! And the other location has a more expansive menu... Which was a bit frustrating heading into town without much knowledge of either, we probably would have appreciated the other location's menu a bit more. The guy at the counter charmed us into forgetting about the waffle fries and ordering there anyways...
That aside, Ricewood is awesome! The food is remarkable, some of the best barbeque we have ever had. The menus is VERY minimal - basically BBQ bowls (meat, rice, tomato and onion - hot soy sauce is optional, veggies are extra), a couple sandwiches, and meat by the pound. I would dock them a star for that, but I suspect once you know, you crave these bowls like we do and don't care about other options!
At this location, you can go order drinks from the bar/cafe that shares the space, and you take your food to a common area to eat and bus your table yourself. The vibe is nice, but it's more coffee house than restaurant; we were one of a couple tables eating, most were just having a glass of wine/coffee and working on their computers. Overall the meal was a bit pricy, but the food quality and flavor certainly...
