I attended the annual Seafood Festival in Appalachola, Florida today with two friends. In the food section I had a dozen raw oysters, my friend's husband had two dozen, and my girlfriend had the fried clam plate from a different vendor. Of course my oysters were fresh, served with all the trimmings including horseredish and lemon for $15.00 a dozen. My friend's husband's plates looked as good as mine and I observed he ate all of his as well. I have no complaints on those. My friend's clam plate was overcooked and dry with too much seasoning in the rice. She only ate about 1/8 of the plate before giving up in disgust. She paid a whopping $25.00 for that mistake. Next, we looked over the entire section, including the general "carnival food" vendors and found nothing else we even wanted to try. We went through the vendors section to look/ buy any offerings we found take home worthy or for Christmas present purchases. We both think that the number of these vendors is less then previous years but of course, we might be wrong. I purchased a front porch sign, she purchased nothing. Her husband purchased a shirt from Florida Fish/Wildlife for his brother. We ate and looked and we're finished and gone in approximately two hours. Parking is...

The city of Apalachicola has turned its parking lot under a bridge into a money-making scheme, nearly doubling the cost to $50 per night in the last couple years. The city police officer who greeted us claimed that $50 was "a good deal because of the cost of hotels around here." We were there on a Tuesday evening in February and there was only one other RVer present. The officer said it fills up on the weekends. It's pretty obvious by the poor condition of the parking lot and surrounding area that they're not putting any of the revenue they get back into the dirt...
