I attended the annual Seafood Festival in Appalachola, Florida today with two friends. In the food section I had a dozen raw oysters, my friend's husband had two dozen, and my girlfriend had the fried clam plate from a different vendor. Of course my oysters were fresh, served with all the trimmings including horseredish and lemon for $15.00 a dozen. My friend's husband's plates looked as good as mine and I observed he ate all of his as well. I have no complaints on those. My friend's clam plate was overcooked and dry with too much seasoning in the rice. She only ate about 1/8 of the plate before giving up in disgust. She paid a whopping $25.00 for that mistake. Next, we looked over the entire section, including the general "carnival food" vendors and found nothing else we even wanted to try. We went through the vendors section to look/ buy any offerings we found take home worthy or for Christmas present purchases. We both think that the number of these vendors is less then previous years but of course, we might be wrong. I purchased a front porch sign, she purchased nothing. Her husband purchased a shirt from Florida Fish/Wildlife for his brother. We ate and looked and we're finished and gone in approximately two hours. Parking is...

Unreasonable Overnight Parking Cost

The city of Apalachicola has turned its parking lot under a bridge into a money-making scheme, nearly doubling the cost to $50 per night in the last couple years. The city police officer who greeted us claimed that $50 was "a good deal because of the cost of hotels around here." They used to take cash as well but now have switched to a credit-only kiosk near the boat docks.

The parking lot consists of a dirt portion and a grass portion. You can park in either. It's underneath a high, busy bridge. Construction is currently occurring in the area and the officer also warned that construction traffic would be coming and going at all hours of the night.

We were there on a Tuesday evening in February and there was only one other RVer present. The officer said it fills up on the weekends. It's pretty obvious by the poor condition of the parking lot and surrounding area that they're not putting any of the revenue they get back into the dirt...

Great place to fish, watch the fishing boats come in and out. Walking to the great sea food restaurants. No hookups, but great place hang for a day or two. Don't forget to check out the boats around the docks. AND PLEASE PICK UP YOUR TRASH there are TRASH cans close buy. You might see a friendly Ol' fellow picking up around feel free to ask him Where to go and what to do...Just tell O'l Captain Jerry that Mike and...

This used to be a great place to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful views of Apalachicola bay. Unfortunately months later after hurricane Michael the inept city commissioners still have not repaired (or even begun to repair) the piers. This may be an expensive process so can be understood but it shouldn't be hard or expensive for the city to at least clean up the trash which it seems incapable of doing.

I came to visit last month because I heard it was a nice town. Not only is it a delightful town, but the people are friendly. I met a lovely lady named Judy who was driving a golf cart, she showed me where I can find a safe campsite and even taught me some things about birds. Thanks again Judy if you see this. When I come back up in a few months I will be spending a few days this time.

Great place to watch the water while eating lunch, or the shrimp boats return at sunrise. No idea why they call it a park. It's a dirt lot. The boardwalk is still not repaired a year after the hurricane. The ballfield is hardly recognizable as a ballfield. Everyone's garbage blows into this lot. I Pick up a bag full with every visit. I do enjoy watching the pelicans sun bathe.
