Just have to say that our guide was incredible. She gave so much in-depth information on so much of the details surrounding the house and the Crane family that left both myself and my girlfriend in awe. We are both Newark public school teacher's and this visit had a profound impact on my habits as writer and my practice in the classroom. I have taught my students much about Crane since this visit. I left with nothing but pure joy at the wonderful showcase we were given through this tour. It has meant so much to my students who initially knew nothing of Crane. I have now seen them significantly grow interested in his work, with a newfound sense of pride to the fact that he was born in their hometown of the Ironbound. This I found out was Susan R. You may have seen her in the local magazines. Susan is kind, professional, and takes pride in her role. She has the perfect balance of heavy details, lighter anecdotes, and a few questions back at me! She said she had been an academic librarian and it shows. Great tour, great house. Read moreThe people who manage this house are amazing at preserving, not only this house, but Stephen Crane's memory as well. I came here without realizing I needed an appointment. However, a docent named Susan came to the rescue and gave me a tour without any notice. Besides the mistake I made, this was very much worth the trip. Susan was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and willing to try to answer any question I asked.
